Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hello. I'm brand new to Warhammer and chose a Dark Elf Battalion to start my army. Purchased a Dreadlord and Supreme Sorceress ( Dumbed down to Master/Sorc) to go with. Any and all advice would be appreciated. Trying to beef it up to 1250 then 2000 accordingly. Only question I have for now is, should I leave the left arms off on the models, paint, then assemble arm and shield afterwards? Hard to get to that chest painted with that arm blocking. And will the glue hold to the paint finish?

get a bolthrower or a hydra and a box of glade riders to paint as your dark riders --- dark riders are the DE's best advantage in my mind.
How big of a regiment will I need of Dark Riders? 12 bucks a piece is rather alot for Dark Riders compared to 35 for 8 Glades so if it's a big regiment I'll go for that. If not I'll stick with the Dark Ride models cuz of looks. As for the bolt thrower, I'll buy 2 so I can add another when my army grows even bigger. Is it better to field them separatley or as a duo? Thanks for the advice =)

the box of glades will serve, a good harrying unit is all you need -- I dont doubt that two bolts would be a good buy, but takes up all your rare slots for 2k
but just a hair more than the war hydra is 2 bolt throwers so its just on the flavor you want to go with
The Battalion is a great start, that alone will probaby run around 1000-1250 depending on equipment. If you want lots of spearmen though, you'll need to get some extra shields as the box only has 12. You can get them online from GW or grab another box of spearmen for 28 shields and more models to use as crossbowmen or even as Dark Riders (when mixed with the glade guard).
Glade Guard make nice Dark Riders with a little converting and since the ideal is 5-6 per unit, you can get up to 3 units if you pick up two (but that's for later I'd say, 8 is good for now).
You can take 2 Bolt Throwers per Rare slot and 2 is always better than one.
As for painting, you can leave the arms off if you want to paint the chest and arms better. I will be doing that and it is not very tough to get the arms to stick with the plastic.
Awesome. Confused on the deployment issue of the Bolt throwers. What is the difference between pairing them up, or deploying them separately?
Bolt Throwers always deploy seperately and operate independently, but you can take up to 2 per Rare slot. So in a 2k game you could field 4 Bolt Throwers or 2 and a War Hydra.
Excellent. That answers all my initial question. Almost done assembling the Battalion. Just got the Corsairs left. I'll keep you updated. Need to decide on colors next.
