it says it comes with a total of 28 warriors, 16 of them can be assembled as RXBowmen and 12 as Regular warriors with spears, however can anyone who has bought the battalion tell me if their is enough extra pieces to make the extra 6 RXBowmen into 6 Spearmen or vice versa, or is their strictly enough bits to only make what it says on the box?

Though remember that in fantasy only the Majority of the Unit must be fully representative.

20 Bucks. Eat it; Ride it; Hump it. I don't care. - Earl J. Hickey
Vise versa, is there enough in there to create more x bowman?
Yup. I made 20 crossbowman with the battalion and have 8 crossbows left over I believe. Im using these to convert glade riders to dark riders as we speak. They also give you a rediculous amount of spears though.
Basically it's 7 sprues of 4 warriors each with 3 sprues of four sheilds.
Start a Bits Box if you don't already have one. Trade parts with your friends, and use them for conversions in the future.
GW does tend to give out rather a lot of weapons and bases with their models.
If you think that's bad, I've got a tin full of skeletal limbs and heads to show, from a Tomb Kings battalion and skeleton regiment. I counted, and they came with 13 heads per 4 skeletons. That includes a ram's head. They also come with three separate sets of weapons options, and that includes the choice between swords and assorted blunt weapons as one option. Then there are the regular vs. armoured torsos, the shield option, as well as two sets of command upgrades. Add that up for 9 such sets.
When, exactly, does a bitz box turn into a bitz bucket?
Anyway, I assume regular Dark Elf Warriors regiments come with a full shield kit?
Indeed. If you buy a box of warriors, it comes with 16 legs, 16 torsos, 48 heads ( i think), 16 shields, 28 spears I believe and 16 rxbows (10/6 mix of double to single arms). And the FC bitz etc. I'd keep all of these like everyone else said. Used all my extra battalion bits on 2 units of dark rider conversions alone.
Shields are a handy commodity for DEs, too. Warriors with x-bows and shields end up with a 5+ save and 4+ in combat. That's not bad for bowmen and reduces the chance of being over-run by small units of light cav.
No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!
