Anyone played against the new chaos yet? I have a battle tomorrow against WoC and know that my opponents likes giants he will field 2 giants, and i bet he takes 2 unit light cav (hounds? dunno i know nothing of chaos). Beside that it's a suprise.
I'm for sure taking Reaper Bolt Throwers but he told me that his list has a feature to take down warmachines quickly. Any idea what this is or what i can do to protect my bolt throwers.
Should I go combat or magic?
Will my arrows be effective enough? dark riders / shades / crossbowmen?
I'm realy not sure what to bring, help would be appreciated ^^

I haven't played against the new WoC since our only WoC player don't play anymore. But I've looked in their armybook and they looks like the old mortals with beast allies... sort of. Giants goes down quickly with 4 boltthrowers. Movement is key! Don't go over the top with light shooting. Magic is effective, specially metal. Besides magic they don't have any shooting besides the hell cannon (and there are better rares). They don't have any flying units and their fast cav is slower than yours. So I think that movement is key. Shoot the monsters with your war machines. Take down their fast cav first. Then beat them in combat by engaging several units against one. Magic is a nice bonus but since it is a bit of a gamble with magic I wouldn't rely too much on it, but don't leave it out either 2 lvl2s with metal is quite handy against knights and warriors, can even snipe characters. If you're facing nurgle or tzeentch place some more pts in magic defense.
He might be referring to hounds or marauder horsemen when it comes to taking out your war machines. Your repeaters should be able to grind away at them before they reach your crews. As for targeting knights and warriors, crossbows aren't the greatest thing with needing 5's to wound on top of their 3-4+ save. Bolt throwers do nicely if they aren't to busy punching holes in giants and shaggoths.
Joe Peshi (lone wolf) kill tally:Lash Sorcerer, Ghazkull, Yriel, Termi Libby, Vulkan.
i have played three games against the new warriors of chaos.
Here are a couple of tips:
Crossbowmen ARE usefull because they are (usually) pretty good at killing marauders and marauder horsemen.
They are also good against giants.
You should equip them with shields just in case any marauders get through to your line.
Hydras are pretty good too but you should be careful if your opponent has heavy magic because there is a spell called 'the quagmire of (i cant remember so look it up.).
Its nasty against the hydra because you have to take an initiative test and the hydra's initiative is only 2.
once you fail the initiative test you have to roll an armour save.
For this spell you have to roll your armour save or under. (1-4)
if you fail this your hydra is destroyed.
Chaos characters HAVE to challenge any enemy characters
So make your heros as powerful as you can.
The pendant of khaeleth is good because chaos characters tend to have
a fairly high strength.
i recommend strength potions too.
You also want to be striking first wherever possible.
Chariots and cold one knights are good. (if you pass your stupidity tests)
and the odd asassin here and there will help.
Some magic will definately be usefull.
if you can get the spell 'word of pain' you are laughing.
'doom bolt' is also good
give at least one sorceress the sacrificial dagger
and put her in a small unit of unmodified spearmen (10-15)
i hope you find this usefull.
Just had a 1500 pt match up vs chaos and lost horribly!
It was partly my own fault - I forgot that chariots can't march, so is restricted to 7" so was wasted on the flank. Also, my boss was in the chariot (something new I was trying out) so that was about 240 points out of action the whole fight.
My corsairs with an assassin and banner of frenzy wiped out 20 marauders, but because of a crap pursue roll took me 2 turns. My blackguard were unlucky to fall foul of the Treason of Tzeentch spell (where everyone attacks themselves) and lost 8 of 15 in the first turn, including Kouran (although after a review of the rules, we worked out Kouran shouldn't have been killed).
Chaos warhounds are very annoying when used well - a unit of 5 only costs 30 points, yet held up about 250 pts of mine by harrying the flanks and march blocking. Had the game gone past the 4th turn, the warhounds probably would have killed my bolt thrower.
The biggest problem I had was their high strength and toughness - it meant that my ranged attacks did bugger all.
it didn't help that my magic rolls were crappy, and his were great - I didn't get a single spell off, yet he got 2 which wiped out about 100 points each.
We're having a rematch soon, and I will be taking a hydra rather than a RBT, and probably cold one knights rather than a chariot. I'll definitely be keeping my assassins - they easily made back their points value, and if you give them manbane, are awesome against all the chaos units. 1 assassin managed to take out 7 chaos warriors and 2 chaos knights, and the other about 12 marauders and a sorc. Oh, and I'd take another level 1 sorc as a scroll caddy.
All Chaos has to hunt war machines are Marauder cav and hounds, maybe a Hero on a disk. Lucky for you, Dark Riders can handle Marauder horsemen and hounds extremely easily, shades too.
WoC have no skirmishers or fliers so use your speed and maneuverability to get around him and fight in your terms. You won't beat Chaos Knights head on, so skewer them or march block. Chaos Warriors go down hard to COKs and Shades/Executioners, or Corsairs with Killing Blow.
4x Bolt Throwers would be quite good against them, giants and Warriors alike. Use Dark Riders to protect them and run circles around him while the BTs blow big holes in his line. Finish off with combined charges and you're golden.
