I am not clear on the exact point cost of Tullaris and Kouran. It is not very clear and I have heard 3 different interpretations. Please tell me what you think. I will use the example of 20 BG(5x4) with Kouran.
1) Pay for 20 BG, then pay the cost for Kouran. You then have 19 BG + Kouran.
2) Pay for 19 BG, then pay the cost for Kouran. You then have 19 BG + Kouran.
3) Pay for 20 BG, upgrade one to Tower Master, then pay for Kouran. You have 19 BG + Kouran.
My original thought was 2 because is says "include" instead of "upgrade". I am now leaning toward 1 because it says they are Champions in all respects and the main book says that champions are an upgrade. I have asked 3 different red shirts and have gotten one 1, one 2, and one "not sure." I just want to be sure I am not either one BG point cost over or under when making my list. Thanks for the input.
As the point cost for the Characters inludes all upgrades and equipment the answer is that you take 19 of the unit, and THEN the 20th one IS the Character, so 19 x standard model cost + Character cost. Then only the banner and musician upgrades are available.
You were correct with two. Characters include all cost, just to avoid confusions that may arise with this situation.
The named character is essentially a unit champion. Just a really big and nasty one.
The wording on that particular section is fairly poor. I have always treated him as a unit champion (the book says "Kouran is a champion in all regards") and as such i have purchased him as an upgrade to a member of the unit.
I do this for a number of reasons but the main one is that as he isn't a "character" by the rules description of characters i feel he should therefore be treated as any other unit champion
However, i can see where ambiguities may arise as it doesn't specify that he is an upgrade merely that he and a tower master cannot coexist.
I would use number 2 as 8people suggested. It follows basic logic and if your opponent really chucks up a fuss you may just have to slightly modify your list a little,
I hope that helps,

Strange. Whenever I ask people this question, they give me funny looks and say "Why would you use Kouran?"
It may simply come down to a question of who you're playing against. Amongst friends, 2 is probably the way to go. In a tournament setting, the gloves come off and it's probably wiser to go with 1. I doubt anybody uses 3...
Just an update in case anyone was wondering. I found the answer in the Daemons FAQ. In their book they have the same wording for the Changeling in a block of Horrors. In the FAQ they say that the Changeling is an upgrade so you must pay for the original Horror and then upgrade him to the Changeling by paying the cost listed in the entry. So, that makes #1 the correct way to do it. They could have made it alot simpler by just saying "Upgrade one BG to Kouran for XX pts. Kouran replaces the Tower Master in the group." Well, just thought some of you might want to know.
And that is why grimmtu saidIf you are looking for official rules then yes, it would work just like a unit champion. You pay for the model, and the you pay for the upgrade along with it.Amongst friends, 2 is probably the way to go. In a tournament setting, the gloves come off and it's probably wiser to go with 1. I doubt anybody uses 3...
So are you saying that you buy the unit, pay for musician and standard bearer, and the champion, then on top of that you pay for the cost of Kouran? If so then that's a huge waste of points for the champion because then it would mean your paying 75 points for Kouran, plus the 14 points for the Tower Master.
Please correct me if I'm wrong but that's how it's all sounding to me.
well personally i think tullaris and kouran are incredibly overpriced 83 points for a single wound model!!!
i mean really it's a no brainer their respective units are about the same price they are just waay overkill
if your willing to pay those kind of points on a character who dosn't count as a character then break out for an assasin they work out only slightly more expensive but are more usefull in terms of game play
i know kouran is considered cuz he makes his unit unreakable but consider do you really want the unit to be unbreakable ? in the end "he who lives by running away is proberly a dark elf"
Believe in me, even if we are torn apart our feelings will unite us that is what this post is all about.
