Here is my new character setup for a 2500 point army. It's an all magic list and I want your thoughts on the setup of the two. I think it's a very good list. **I'm leaving out the rest of the list because I'm only interested in peoples thoughts on the two characters.**
Morathi: Heartrender, Black Dragon Egg, Black Staff. 585 pts.
Supreme Sorceress: Lifetaker, Blood Armour, Focus Familiar, Cold One.
I have a few reasons why I have it setup this way. I will start with the Supreme Sorceress first. I like to give blood armour to a supreme sorceress since she has no save on foot, and the cold one for the 5+ save and the extra movement. I then like to give her lifetaker magic bow (you will see why in a sec). Give her focus familiar and on her first chance she gets, move her into some trees. Make sure she is all the way in there so she wont be able to be shot at. On your magic phase cast soul stealer on a big unit. Yeah only strength 2 but also no armour saves allowed and it's automatically hit, u just have to wound. And any wounds you cause will now do more than just add wounds to your max wounds up to double (6) but will also add to your armour save with the blood armour. You could easily get it to the max 1+ that the Armour allows in one magic phase, especially if your mounted on a cold one like I am. The cold one helps more so if by chance you need to flee you can at 3d6. There is nothing stopping you from giving her a better mount, but I plan to stay inside of trees for as long as possible.
Now, since you would have moved her in the trees like I said it protects her even more by them being unable to shoot her, or target her with spells for that matter since she cannot be seen AND units cannot charge a model/unit concealed in trees. The focus familiar allows you to have line of sight out of the trees to be able to cast magic AND use your magic bow "Lifetaker" which I said to equip earlier. You will be able to shoot during the shooting phase right after your finished casting magic which gives your Supreme Sorceress a little more overall effectiveness.
Now onto Morathi. Not much to discuss about her really. She is a beast as we all know. I gave her heartrender just in case I decide to charge a unit later on or possibly a lone character if there is one. The book says when taking Morathi you can pick one Arcane and One Enchanted item from the list in the book for the point cost listed. Like my list said I took The Black Staff and the Black Dragon Egg. The Staff is there for obvious reasons. Extra power dice!!! Sometimes your opponent will try and be cute and dispel your power of darkness spell. So roll one D6 to try and cast it like normal. If they try and dispell it on one D6 as well they could very well fail, or if they use two D6 from their pool then you still have your Black Staff and they would be out 2 dice now. Even still, you get the +1 to any casting roll that you roll so since it's cast on a 4+ you have a max of a 7 on one D6. So the odds are in your favour by just rolling one.
I am taking the Black Dragon Egg because quite honestly it's the only enchanted item that is worth the points. At least since she will be my General. It ensures me a little bit that just in case she gets charged by anyone I can use it and have a toughness of 6 for the remainder of the battle, and I have the noxious breath attack. (breath attack is okay, I mainly have the egg to protect her more) But just like your supreme sorceress, you should have as fast as you can get her wounds maxed up to 6 by using the soul stealer. (sulphet is a monstrous mount with the 3 wounds too so he protects her more by people having to allocate shooting hits by rolling D6 but the nice thing is that Sulphet is NOT a large target!) By flying around enemy line of sights and behind their lines, you should be able to keep her alive with little trouble. Good thing getting behind a unit you cast magic on, casue them to panic after magic missle kills and them fleeing right into you for the easy finish of the unit.
Anyways, all in all it is an expensive setup with characters but I only will take those two so I have 1605 points left from the 2500 point list. This can be a demoralizing setup to your opponent. This could be a good list to use two hydras in. Just a little food for thought
(sorry I did not say the lvl. of the supreme sorceress. on the list I only had it as a lvl.3 so just add 35 more points to it if you take it as a lvl.4 which will be better)
Sorceresses cannot have armor, so there goes that. Cold Ones are stupid and you don't want to be Stupid ever, since it means you won't be casting. You also cannot march and use Lifetaker.
I'd kit your Supreme Sorc like so:
Dark Peggy, Focus Familiar, Pendant, Lifetaker. She flies, has the super ward, Lifetaker, and can cast from behind terrain or in combat (never send her into combat unless she is on a Dragon).

Well for one you cannot have 2 lord choices in under 3k points so you cant use those two particular characters in your list. And as mentioned you cant take any armor either. IMO the bow is just stacking more points on to a character that doesn't really need it.
I wouldn't suggest putting your sorcreress by herself, even in the woods. There are to many shooting abilities that ignore rolling to hit, as well as flyers and other goodies that can easily pick her off. If you were to have her on her own, perhaps put her on a pegasus. The pendant is also not a bad idea for protecting your sorceress. You might also try putting her behind a solid unit of black guard or something nasty and using the focus familiar. Another thing, if you are going to use a mount, don't go with the cold one. Go with a steed, the extra +1 save is just not worth the chance of going stupid.
And one last note, when you are trying to ask people to judge a character set up its really hard to tell how effective it will be without knowing the rest of the list. Most characters (especially magic users) accentuate and act as a force multiplier for your army so particular builds might be better suited to other lists than others.

wow! I did not know about them not being able to wear armour. I just figured since it was a magic item that it was not the same as normal armour... but it makes sense now that I think about it. Thanks. Yeah the pendant is better I suppose.
Okay, yeah, a dark steed would make better sense I guess. Less points too.
But as far as the focus familiar goes, i can use the marker i placed for it to shoot from too. just like magic missles that are allocated as shooting. and she is safe in the woods. flyers cannot fly into woods. so if they fly, they will have to land outside of the woods but they have to pick either flying or moving. and as far as getting shot at, I cannot get shot at if I am inside of woods, just like one cannot shoot out of woods. (they have to be at least 2 inches from the base of the woods to shoot but as a result can not be seen AND now can be shot at) Thats why the focus familiar comes in handy. Units cannot charge into woods since a charging unit has to be able to see the unit/model they wish to charge. And if a unit is outside of the woods wishing 2 charge a model/unit inside they cannot. They woulld have to move into them and get close and wait till their next turn.
as for rather or not the Lifetaker is necessary, no it's not. but since you CAN use the marker used from focus familiar during your magic phase to shoot from it just makes this model have a little more combat effectiveness. But yeah, Ill just bump this list up 2 a 3,000 point list, give the supreme sorceress a dark steed/pendant of kahleth instead of the cold one/blood armour and that will solve the problems addressed to me. Thanks for the help.
Anyone else got comments suggestions?
Yeah why would you take black staff when you automatically get that spell and you have druchii power (as many power dice as you wish).
Fun_Size - check the dates on the threads - this one is over 6 months old. Threadnomancy is often frowned upon.
However, to continue your conversation, what do you mean as many pd as you wish? Where are you getting that from?
The Black Staff is an incredibly useful item because it allows you to cast a spell that would normally require 2 pd, for free. Its effects can be summed up in one word: overload.
Simply put, you use it to overload your opponents magic defense, drawing out DD, scrolls etc. When used at the end of your magic phase (after following your normal casting procedure) it allows you to cast another devestating spell that will either go through unnopposed (because your opponent has nothing left) or draw out a valuable Dispel Scroll early on in the game.
It is, quite arguably, one of the best arcane items in our arsenal.

Hey sorry as you can tell im new to libraium but with the druchii power(book quote) "Dark Elf wizards may use any number of power dice to cast spells they are not limited by their magic level like other wizards." so im interpreting that as many power dice as you wish or am i wrong.
you are wrong.
Typically a caster can only use one more dice than their power level.
That allows you to use any ammount of dice as long as there are that many in your dice pool.
thanks that really clears alot up for me so blak staff really is a good item.
