New to the Dark Elves and fairly new to FB in general. Switche dto De from Empire as they were too squishy and boring to paint , whereas De have a lot of character.
The Black Ark fluff swayed me (not to mention Shifting Sands work on a Kraken Lord, kudos to him) and so I've gone for a "shock troop" list, which focuses on large amounts of Corsairs led by Fellhart and backed up with a few rare units. The army would be first into the beachead from a Black Ark
I'm not setting a list in stone but heres a potential lineup.
Sorceress, 2x Dispel Scroll, Happy Dagger
20x Corsairs, B,M, with Fellheart
28x Spearmen B,M,C with Sorc
20x Corsairs, B,M,C (Banner of Murder)
8x RXbow (I dunno about these two- I didnt want that many but I still want some firepower to take out skirmishers etc. as I dont have a lot of magic.Splitting them makes them a waste of time to target)
5x Cold one Knights, B,M,C
Cold one Chariot.
2x Bolt Thrower
Minimum size for RxBs is 10, so you may want to change that
I run something similar with pimp daddy Lokhir and his fly honies (Sorceresses).
Sorcs can only get 50 points of magic gear, so no dagger for you. If you're just running 1 Sorc, make her a caddy.
Corsairs need to go 6 or 7 wide to maximize attacks, they are too expensive to waste getting rank bonuses. I like 17 with the Sea Serpent Standard and Lokhir to mow down infantry and smaller units for flanking. Handbows are really handy on the flanks.
The single chariot will get gunned down, I'd drop the COKs altogether for another chariot and some Harpies and Shades.
Some assassins wouldn't hurt either. Corsairs struggle against more heavily armored foes, so a ton of attacks with Manbane or KB help considerably.
sacrificial dagger is less than 50pts, so it can be taken with another item easily. he'd just have to drop a scroll. But I agree, you may want to play with your magic items to either make an offensive magic list or just defensive (scroll caddy, null talisman's, etc)
Just to point out. DE are much more squishy than Empire and usually more expensive. As far as being boring to paint, all core troops are boring (anything is boring to paint when you have more than 5 to paint)
This may or may not need to go to the army list section I'm not sure what you're asking us (about the army or models)
Ah well I suppose if you mean less resilient as a whole yeah, but I meant more in terms of fun factor. Dark Elves have the badass factor. And I find the Dark Elf core troops more detailed and fun to go to town on then State troops, but thats just me.
As for the Cold one Knights, I really wanted these in the army, I wonder if I drop the Chariot would it be better? I've also realized the Chariot doesnt really fit into the the fluff of the army either-disembarking from a vessel onto a beach would be tough for the clumsy thing.
Heres a revised list.
Sorc, 1x Dispel Scroll, Null Talisman
18x Corsairs Banner of Murder, M,C (Asassin with Manbane)
18x Corsairs (Fellheart)
28 Spearmen (Sorc)
5 Cold One Knights, (B, M, C)
2 Bolt Throwers
That looks good, I'd just try and find points for the Sea Serpent Standard and a command group for Lokhir's escort.
looks good. something you might consider though. drop one of the 10 Xbow men for a group of 5-6 shades with Great Weapons. They've done nothing but great for me.
You're actually going to have a lot of fun painting up those corsairs. I'm currently messing around with a squad of 18, and those suckers really have some nice detail on em!
Gah, careful about positioning them too far forward on their bases though. I made that mistake at first and those boys were almost kissin' the ground! It looked like an armored 'west side story' or something!
Also, war hydra = pin city (I have like 13 pins in the first one i put together). Its an exercise in patience but now that I'm painting him he looks way cool. Your army list looks good, fluffy but with a hint of competitiveness, and I feel you on painting up those state troops :/
Keep up the good work yo!
No fate but what you make.
