So I was looking through the army book, trying to get new ideas as I am a new player and have looked through the army list section quite a bit to see what I like. Here is my question...
I run my BG like this atm...
Black Guard x18 (312pts)
Towermaster W crimson death, musician, standard bearer with Standard of Hag Graef
My question is in an under 2000 point list, ie 1250, how feasable is it to have a cauldron of blood, and a hero with BSB and the Hydra banner?
That would give my BG a possible 3 attacks each, ASF, nice combat res... am I missing any other perks of this set up and is it to much of a point sink at a low points lvl?
Would it be plausalbe at 2250? Any comments suggestions welcome!
Don't forget the Ring of Hotek and/or 3 Null Talismans
It's a very expensive combo you have there and is the essence of the "Deathstar" build, one uber unit that is your entire army. BG are only T3 with heavy armor, so you'll get hurt badly by magic and shooting. Magic defense and Harpy screens will help a lot, as would some Dark Riders to go after war machines.

I'm not sure I would even use BG in a 1250pt list. 2 characters would also be iffy. @1250 I'd have a couple of units of dark riders, maybe some repeater crossbows and/or warriors and maybe some shades for killy warmachine hunters. cold one knights would be fun, but pretty hazardous since they wouldn't have much to back them up. Maybe take the cold blooded banner.
I wouldn't run it at 1250p. but maybe on a higher points level where you can afford more units in general.
As someone mentioned, it's really the start of a "deathstar unit you're building there and you'll get a lot of negative comments if you play it, especially in smaller points games.
5000p. High Elves
I think you'll complain faster than your opponents. If you lock up all your points in an extremely flimsy unit, then you'll end up losing most of your games. The enemy can deal with whatever else you can take then pour everything into the BG unit, or distract it or derail it entirely, keeping it out of combat.
My intention was not to make a death star, and I will more or less run the BG just as shown (minus the blood cauldron and BS, even in a 1250 list, becuase my other units are all fast so it will be hard to just kill them and avoid my BG, even NOT using a Deathstar. I was simply going through the army book saw that and thought it was a nasty looking unit. From the tone of the posts here it would be an unpopular choice, thanks for the feedback.
