Whats The Best Way to beat dwarves?
With a large stick - while they sleep.
haha funny guy.... now for some real advice?
Dragon always works, but thats the easy mode and not very nice.
Personally I would go with double hydra, 20 men black guard with always strike first banner, 2x6 cold one knights (one with armor pircing banner), 3x5 dark riders, cauldron of blood, dreadlord (soulrender, armor of darkness, pendant of kaeleth, put him in the Black Guard) and for the rest of the 221 points throw as much harpies on the field (in small units) as you can get..
tactic is simple.. put cold one knights on each flank, next to them a hydra. place the black guard in the middle, behind them the cauldron. then put dark rider units in front of both CoK and the black guard. put 2x5 harpies in front of the BG, 5 harpies in front of CoK..
Harpies and Dark Riders work as screens, harpies can charge war machines at second turn.. (if they survive if your opponent throws a gunline). then just run forward and seek for close combat. if harpies or dark riders survive use them as rank bonus breaker, let them charge from behind. the hydras flame plate works wonders against dwarfs! let the hydras run through the gaps of the enmies army and spit fire with strengh 5. oif you got woundend through shooting and go for close combat.
If you want to play (boring) mode, drop the BG, give the dreadlord the crimson death instead of the soulrender and put him on the dragon. then put the cauldron on one flank, the dragon on the other. first place dark riders and harpies in the middle, they are units to get sacrificed, but your opponent might put units in the middle because he expects the harder army parts there, deployed later. than you can yo for the flanks even easier
nice things to remeber- cauldron should give +1 attack to the cold one knights, if they are reduced to 3 or lower give the hydra the killing blow ability (go for characters). as long as you are running in the open, give the 5+ ward to the knigts.
If your enemy puts a mountin or something like this (for his gunners) on the table, put a wood on it or directly in front of it, so his war machines can´t look over your sacrificial troops and hit your elites.
I believe that harpies are skirmishers and therefore cannot cancel rank bonus.
Shadow blade is awesome against dwarfs especially in combo with monsters shoadow can take out warmasines which monsters do the damige.
"Should take you a while though because of your sloth like pace"

I wouldn't advise a dragon against Warhammer Armies: Bolt Throwers, I mean Dwarfs. They can put out so much monster killing kit it isn't funny. And flaming bolt thrower = dead Hydra.
Use your speed to get around his big blocks and go after the weaker stuff (missile troops, war machines) and set up charges to break his big units. Dwarfs rely on SCR and not dying to win combats, so flank/rear charge to take away that bonus and send in can openers like Execs and Cold One Knights to kill them off.

As a dwarf player, if youre going to take a dragon or hydras (hydrai?) keep them well away from table edges or you risk one of your mighty monsters being flank charged by miners when they turn up. Also be wary of anvils of doom. The bang on the anvil that does D6 or 2D6 strength 4 on D3 units can be very nasty.
If they DO have an anvil, you can be certain that they're going to do everything they can to defend it in its 400+ glory, so use that to your advantage and pick off anything thats hanging around further away and then pounce on the remainder.
Mobility should see you through the day here so go with things that are as mobile as possible, scouting especially.
I would say good luck, but i'll be cheering for the dwarfs.
Bring Shadowblade, pop him out of the Anvil of Doom. If he doesnt bring it, then pick a war machine and go to town. Yes, you can pop him out of the Anvil of Doom. I already had a post about Shadowblade and a debate started up if I was able to have done that or not against the AoD. Eventually we got a response from an official FAQ thread on the subject from the Devs saying that he can indeed be hidden inside the Anvil. Have fun, enjoy his shock when you pop him out of it!!!
This is why nobody likes Dark Elf players :@
