Are chariots worth taking? I have planned an army that revolves arond a cold one chariot with a noble inside. It has loads of attacks altogether on the charge because my noble has hydra blade, but im just wondering if the chariot is actually that great. Thanks .
I've had mixed success with them.
Things i like - T5 rocks as does the nice armor save and point cost
Fear and hatred on the model does wonders even if I roll a "1 or 2" on the impact hits
Things I don't like - stupidity
I don't care what anyone says, I play lizardmen and no matter what you can still fail stupidity without a problem, no matter how high your leadership is and it will screw up your game. We don't really have a lot of heavy hitters and stupidity can really mess you up.
I think I may just stick to 1-2 stupid units per army to keep my blood pressure down. I also wish the riders had lances instead o f spears. str6 is so hard to get for some reason with elves.
Cold One chariots are rock hard. I think they're great, the trouble is choosing what special unit to lose so you can take a chariot. A toughness 5 model in a toughness 3 army is sweet. Stupidity sucks but you have Leadership 9 so it shouldn't hurt too much but as Buckero0 said, it can always come and bite you back. Your noble will take up 1 space on the chariot so you can keep the second charioteer, and that guy is great. He has a repeater crossbow and a spear with ballistic skill and strength 4 base. That's a pretty sweet deal, and don't forget you have hatred and your strength 4 cold ones. Personally I would give your noble a repeater crossbow, heavy armour, sea dragon cloak, shield and a lance. This means that he can shoot with your other charioteer. It's only 4 shots but they do both have decent ballistic skill. His armour adds up to a 1+ save in combat and 0+ against shooting. He has a lance so he's strength 6 on the charge.
I say go for it, nobles with some basic mundane gear can be pretty strong, chariots are tough and can deliver a hell of a hit, this combination you are combining both of these two guys. It'll be about 200 points for the guy I presented above but he's probably worth it in a big game.
Do they even make DE chariots anymore?
Sadly no they don't make them anymore but they are pritty easy to get hold of i use 3 in my army (i play 4k point Games) and they just rule on the first turn they get there first get the good damage done then make them back off and do it again chariot abuse to the extreme
Just checked out the GW website and no chariots available, must mean a new release coming soon with the new Cold One models. Love chariots, i think im right in saying they cant march move which makes them a little slow, but they have a very mavouverable charge and the crew having crossbows make them a good mobile shooting platform even before they get into combat.
Chariots are nasty on the charge, but you need to take multiples of them, otherwise you get pasted by S7+ war machines.

Stupidity is just terrible though. I'll run 2 chariots and a cok unit with a dreadlord nearby and still have 5 failed stupidity tests a game. It's just not worth it. I think I'll either go back to my black guard or try out some executioners or more shades or something. Just terrble. I don't think I can stand more than one cheap stupid unit which is too bad because my CoCs are really cool looking, but terrible/frustrating game-losing when stupid.
I agree with buckero. Stupidity is an auto-exclude for me, no matter the army.
But back to the chariot issue, I have never liked them much. Always seem to end up getting shot down or an unlucky charge on em renders the chariot useless. Plus the lack of models now isnt too encouraging. Some nice new plastics might change my mind about them tho...
