Pretty sure that this way of getting strength 7 has been discussed and denied (Ari Huston made the army book). You can see the post at: DARK ELVES Q&A: ON THE RULES Mechanical Hamster ---------- Hi Gav, like most people gotta say great work on the new book, great fluff, great rules Thanks for making time for this questionnaire, greatly appreciated. Was an assassin always meant as a chariot killing star throwing maniac… I mean Strength 7 on a throwing star, (with the stars and manbane) ain’t this a bit much? It is not possible to get Strength 7 with Manbane. The throwing stars add +1 to the S of the model and then the Manbane is a bonus on top of this (just as ordinary poison would be) – it clearly states Strength is increased to a maximum of 6. The official FAQ on the GW site specificaly says it does take it up to S7 against T6. Manbane against T6 raises the base strength to S6 (the maximum manbane can boost by), at which point the throwing stars are "users strength +1" = S7. http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_...lves_FAQ_Jan09 As Thorpe left GW and isnt responsible for the GW FAQs, even though its a bit cheesy doesnt stop it being true untill another offical FAQ corrects it. I run a guy with stars, manbane and extra hand weapon in a unit of 10 shades and it never fails to do real damage, taking down greater daemons and entire units through pure firepower alone. in total its gona cost between 50-60pts on items for a guy who hits on 2s (almost all the time unless some rule specifies otherwise) with 3 shots and with the combination of manbane and stars nearly always wounds on 2s, modifying armour with the strength. Now you think against somthing like chaos knights where they are very expensive and so often come in small units but are devestating if they get into combat. With the assasin (who could be in a unit getting charged so could stand and shoot react,) you are hitting the unit on 2s and wounding on 2s with a -3 to the armour save, so on averagfe you can drop 1.5 knights per turn, making up for the points you spend on the items easily. Taken as i take them in a big unit of shades, you have the potential of scouting, popping out infront of greater daemons or warmachines and riddleing them with enough shots that they could potentialy drop in the first turn, or at worse, significantly weaken them to the point where your opponent fears using them to full potential if you have bolt throwers sat on the board waiting to finsih the job. In any dark elf army i would suggest this or a very similar set up as he has so many roles he could play. |

it is about 30 pts for stars and 25 for manbane. I normally dont run shades so i take 3 lvl 2 mages and the bound item that allows me to fly for another 20 pts. that way i reveal out of my bg, use up their DD then bound item to their war machines, lone heros, or anything else big and scary and just shoot the crap out of it. EDIT: the assasain makes up his points very fast, especially when the opponent is distracted and keeps trying to get a charge off on my assasain taking important heros or mosters or magice away from the rest of my army.
