I'm going down to my local GW tomorrow with my two friends and there could be a guy there who plays daemons. We're quite good friends with him and have played him a few times and lost horribly. We have to do 2v1 or even 3v1 because we dont have enough points individually but i would like to try my spanking new Dark Elves against him. I have my current list down (800 points) but i was wondering if you guys could give me some pointers for things to use in future against Daemons. I know they're horriblebut any advice is welcome. Thanks
It depends on what kind of units/theme he builds his army with, Khorne and slaanesh are more combat focused and are the most vulnerable to shooting. Nurgle is much more resistance to damage, but vulnerable to fire attacks and for the heralds killing blow. Tzeentch is more about ranged magic and shooting or the flying circus (all flying wizard characters).
So depending on the build of the daemons you may want to increase different areas of your own army.
You can list to this podcast, which myself and 2 other guys go over some the DoC stuff:

Thanks for the reply, he plays a mixed army and i know that he isn't playing daemons in a realy harsh way but he beats us every time. He also plays special characters which me and my friends don't like. He takes skulltaker, epidemius, the masque, great unclean one and a herald of nurgle. I've only just realised that that's 5 character choices which is illegal but it's ok because h didnt take the masque last time. He has a big block of plaguebearers containing the herald and epidemius with a banner that makes a lore of magic -2 to cast. He has a block of bloodletters, some daemonettes, flamers, bloodcrushers and maybe some other stuff. He also plays ogres and had to take some ogre "allies" to make his army enough points which we didnt mind. Any suggestions from this?
Epidemius is a waste if he only has that one block of bearers. That block is also a huge block of points so just ignore it until you deal with his other stuff. Pretty much all his stuff is only a 5+ Ward and T:3 so volume of fire is effective against them also.
just echoing other people really. flame the hell outta the plague bearers and shoot the bletters and daemonettes. ignore the great unclean one if you can or throw a assive unit into im and out res him, as hes pretty shcking in combat without miasma of pestilence.
black guard with the ASF banner and the Crimson death will totally chin the blood crushers. if you want to really anihilate them, have the guard 6 wide too.
Thanks guys, this is helping a lot. The first game we played against him, me and my WoC-playing friend took out his plaguebearers for the entire game as i was playing wood elves and tree singing hurt him a lot. Once i get a bigger list then i'm sure i will think of a few good ideas. I have 10 black guard with command and i need to get the unit up to 20, that will be handy against him. They could take the bloodcrushers and maybe res the GUO if i can get another unit in the flank. Thanks for the advice guys, any more is still welcome .
Ok here are my recommendations, I play daemons myself, though mostly khorne/slaanesh (I dont like magic).
Also id like to say, playing so many named heroes is pretty lame, he should try using the normal heralds for a change but whatever (Its important to note that the DoC named heroes are somewhat undercosted for their abilities). And also, playing a 2v1 or 3v1 game isnt going to give you an accurate picture of army balence as using 3 small armies against 1 big one is a big disadvantage using the standard army creation rules.
Also another important thing, the named heroes (i.e. Skulltaker) does not have the locus ability like the normal heralds and wont give units the bonuses, so make sure he isnt trying to play it like they do.
So against the Plague Bearers, you have 3 options really:
1. Ignore it until you deal with the other units.
2. Use fire magic, however this will be alot harder thanks to the standard of sundering.
3a. Try to beat it in combat with combo charges.
3b. Killing blow the heralds which negates their regen.
Against the Bloodletters, honestly just shoot the crap out of them, their only t3 with just a 5+ ward, they'll die quickly with enough focused fire, the same thing applies to daemonettes.
The flamers, in my opinion magic is the best way to deal with them, I would highly recommend using chillwind, but I cant make this any clearer ONLY USE CHILLWIND ONCE YOU HAVE A FLAMER ON 1 WOUND, other wise your likely hood of doing a casualty goes down alot (yes, chillwind needs to do a "casualty" to stop the unit shooting, not a wound). Dont be fooled into thinking their soft in combat either, they might be a very low WS but they have 2 attacks each and are a high str.
The bloodcrusher, well im suprised he's using these, they are the worst rare choice and a prime target for bolt throwers.
My other recommendation would be to take an assassin, they can deal with the khorne and nurgle heralds very well with their extra attacks and killing blow, and will always strike before anything except the Kipper.
