My brother just found out that he wants to start playing Fantasy Battles!
I'm a Lizardmenn player so he'll be playing mostly against me and probably my GS friend. As for him he really wants to play one of the elf armies. ( Im posting this in the Dark Elf, High Elf and Woodelf forums)
The army has to be well balanced, fun to play and of course it has to have some neat units
Personally i don't really have much experience with any elfs, so i need YOUR recomendation. Like are they a good starter army, balanced? How are they against LM and GS? Why should he choose this army etc..
Thanks in advance!
The Dark Elf army is a very complete army with the capability to preform (well) in all phases of the game. All the Elf armies are pretty capable though so I think it's important for your brother to decide what side of the fluff he likes. The Dark Elf we hate everyone and everything, the High Elf look at us were pretty, or the Wood Elf, we love trees side. I feel that the look of the army is the most important thing when picking one, because if you don't like the look of your army you wont be motivated to get it painted.
That being said, he should obviously pick DE.I think it's important for your brother to decide what side of the fluff he likes.
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares, your a mile away and you have his shoes!!
Chuck Norris invented water
I think DE are easily one of the best starter armies in the game. Loads of balance. Good shooting, magic, combat, a little of everything or you can load up on one. Lots of different types of units, fliers, skirmishers, cavalry, monsters, and then your regular rank and file in many varieties.
The book is for the most part, well written. There are a ton of different character types and good, useful magic items instead of just 1-2 always take type of items.
Not bying the army you like because it is not a starter army is ridiculous as after spending hundreds and getting to know the game you are using an army you don't really like and then have to spend more to get the army you like. By the one you like and learn to use that one.
Daemonic cheese-how? Well, you would need to start with daemonic milk, i guess...
he's not buying any of them, this is for his brother, and his brother likes the elves. If he's never played before, it really doesn't matter, because his opinions on what he likes have no bearing on what the armies play like. Out of the 3 elf armies, DE is easily the most balanced and suitable for a beginner.
Personal note would be the magic. Magic plays a big part in Warhammer so I would keep note of his prefered style of magic. Dark Elves use brute force magic, where all their are offensive and they can generate alot of power dice (mwhahah mad with power). I'm not sure of the others but I'm quite sure High elf magic is more defensive.
But yeh, good starter army me thinks for the same reasons previously mentioned.
War Hydra. Get one.
