Well I just arrived home from my very first workshop game day. I was still undecided which army to play until I had the chance to play a few and watch a few others and talk with long time players.
My very first game I tried the Dark Elves 1000 pt games vs Bretonnia. Both of us were new players he had played 40k and I have never played the game. We had a "referee" so to speak to coach both of us with all the phases of the game and how to play but he resisted telling us where to place the armies and strategy.
I had fast calvary the repeater crossbow that could shoot 6 shots or do one really hard bolt that broke through ranks. I had infantry with spears a unit of Black ark corsairs and The lord not sure of all the magic items.
Also there was a level 2 sorceress and crossbowman.
The fast calvary were the game breakers right from the start. I moved out in normal move and deployed other units. He then responded with marching from his two units of heavy calvary and then cast a spell that allowed them to move again to charge my fast calvary. I fleed and he made a tactical error because it allowed my other units to charge and flank him.
The Brettonians heavy calvary are hard to bring down LOL but I won my very first match.
I also played VC and Brettonia and watched others.
Well I decided to go with Dark elves and purchased the book and couple models to get started.
For any really new players I highly recommend going to your local shop to test drive the armies and get a look and feel of them and how you naturally like to play. I love fast calvary and shooters and the magic phase was fun too.
Oh yeah the Assassin.............
Well my first army is Dark Elves. Just wanted to share as I have taken a couple weeks of research to finally pick which army I was going to choose. It was tough between DE and LM after the games workshop today.
Well lots to learn but at least now I have the beginnings of an army.
Congratulations on your first win!
Feel free to ask around for any help with tactics and/or unit choices for your list.
Congrats on your win. I hope you have many more.
