Hi Guys looking for some advice on good anti skaven ideas got 1500 points to spend
You may want to narrow the parameters down a bit. Not least by starting with what models you have access to.
Give us something to work with...
Having an army and not owning a rulebook is like owning a car with no steering wheel.Originally Posted by amishcellphone

At the moment i have a very basic army. but got alot of cash to buy new units.
as my usual opponent is the Skaven thought id tailor my first choices against them.
currently have 2 units of 30 spearmen and 2 units of 10 crossbows.
unit of CoK.
sorry new to forums
wow, that is 3 times more spear elves than I run at 2250. Spear elves have their place, but they aren't good enough to take in those numbers.
As for what you should buy: some special choices like black guard, shades, or more Cold ones (chariots or knights) would work wonders in improving your list. Bolt throwers and hydras also can add quite a bit of punch to the army.
For core try fitting in some harpies and/or dark riders. They are solid unit that help more than you would think.
Beating skaven requires volume of attacks and concentration of force. Things that DE should be doing vs anybody. It is a pretty favorable match as long as you don't over fill your list with too much bad core (warriors and corsairs both do their job, but a little goes a long way)
RBT's, they do large damage to Skaven regiments, give you the abillilty to stop Rat Ogres if he has them.
be careful about using Hydra's, the Skaven usually have access to flame attacks, and most Skaven Magic usually is very effective.
Skaven have a base M of 5, which is more then most DE opponents have and equal to your own, so keep that in mind if you plan on having charge range on this guy from your infantry- I know you probably knows this, but just keep it in mind.
You don't need Cold ONe Knights as much, not when you can use Dark Riders which will probably be more effective vs most Skaven units then COK are and less effective. Your going to be able to get on his flanks easily, the DR's will do it better then COK.
Use DarkRiders/Harpies to march block him, try to get around him.
Lots of X-bows to rain down on him.
As a former Skaven player, I dreaded the DE's, as their army lists were always perfect for whatever I chose to do.

#2. Fear/Terror/Panic. Once their ranks are gone Skaven LD is crap. Force enough tests and the whole army will run.
#3. Snipe the Ratling guns with RxB's.
#4. Frenzy Corsairs are great against Skaven. They have a decent armour save against shooting and they throw out so many attacks that they decimate skaven rank bonus.
#5. Focus your attack on the weakest link in the skaven line. Once you break their line and units start running Skaven usually fall apart.
The only honorable options left to we combatants is seppuku or semantics...which amount to the same thing really.
Yes to all that.
I hear you should absolutely AVOID AT ALL COSTS have any sort of SUPREME SORCERES as your general. If the Skaven are using a Screaming Bell, any natural roll of 13 (5,5,3;6,6,1, etc) kills, I forget how the rule works (and even less in 7th Edition) but it is something to be weary of.
Thankfully he doesnt use a screaming bell. doesnt fit his fluff. thankfully
apperciating all the help so far
Cold One Chariots.
These are great support units to join in with whatever else your using. Plus they have just the right amount of bows to have a reasoable chance of drive by-ing a weapons team.
Current painting project: 2300 pts of Dwarfs in 5 weeks.
I like a good number of repeater x-bows against skaven. Hordes of light armoured enemy makes for a fine shooting phase. Dark Riders can remove ranks and Ld as a result. Well worth having. I'm also a big fan of cold-one cav, probably because fear causing cavalry are just awesome. A couple of chariots are a good alternative, too, especially for running over those irritating skirmish units.
I've had a unit of Black Guard hold a flank alone against a skaven army. For that fight alone I will always have Black Guard- if you support them with cav then they'll be very nasty.
No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!
