My friend joined us after seeing a few games of Warhammer that we played the other weekend. He liked the models and told me he wants to start Dark Elves. He asked me for some advice on what he should buy and this is what I told him:
Warrior Box - To make 10 Crossbowmen and leftover bits for Dark Riders
Glade Rider Box - The base for the Dark Riders
2 Boxes of Corsairs - A solid Core choice imo, and he said he wants atleast a unit of them, cause of the cool models
A Box of Cold One Knights - Rock hard, eh? Cool, too.
A Reaper Bolt Thrower - I like it, so did he
A Master and a Sorceress as heroes
I think it's a quite solid and diverse army with which he can throw dice at every phase of the game and learn the mechanics. I just hope I didn't shoot him in the leg by making him a real crappy army list. Is it good like this or should I suggest something else?
Not bad, why Glade riders and not just Dark riders? Also might e worth getting some black guard.

WDL: Dark Elves:37/6/8 Space Marines:7/3/3
Corsairs are pretty bad compared to what else DE can get for the points, but they still can work out for him. (they are the least competitive core choice, but still better than most armies)
Everything seems quite good, he will have a good base for his army to build on.
The only honorable options left to we combatants is seppuku or semantics...which amount to the same thing really.
