So I have 10 cold one knights in all. My question is, is it better to have 2 units of 5, or 1 unit of 10?
I guess the question is: How lucky are you with leadership tests?
Fantasy: Wood Elves, Dark Elves, Beastmen and Tomb Kings.
LotR: Misty Mountains and Rohan
Shock troops to support, then a 5 man unit is the way to go with minimal upgrades. If you are going BSB w/hydra banner (possibly w/ cauldron blessing) then 10 is preferable.
Thanks. I'm definately having a bsb with the hydra banner, so I guess 10 is the way to go.
I dunno, thats a lot of points just waiting there to go stupid for a turn, making them easy pickings. I've never been a fan of Cav deathstars, they move fast but if enough is brought to bear against them, they die fast too. Also they have so little SCR. I'd go with 7 maybe? I feel like 10 is excess. I know money is sometimes an issue, but if you can, maybe pick up another box and do 7 men with characters and a 5 man shock troop? plus that way you can have models and bitz to convert yourself a BSB, since I don't think theres a mounted one.
Interesting, I am planning to go 2x5 no command to support a master on a manticore... I don't really like the deathstar idea ether, to much points in a unit that could still go stupid.
I think I already said this, but I plan on running a master with the unit.
I've never understood how 5-man units could work well--SCR kills them and they have only a few attacks. Does nobody take COK casualties from shooting or magic? Go with the 10-man unit with full command and the Banner of Cold Blood--they'll be fine without needing a BSB.

I have the master bsb for a little extra power as I only have 2 characters right now and like the extra attacks from hydra banner. The banner of cold blood is the one that is one use only right? I don't have my rulebook on me right now, but if it is than I don't like it. I think banner effects should be constant. Just my opinion.
depends whom you are up against and what their role is in your army.
A single 10 unit strong needs magical protection and needs to move quickly to CC as it WILL be the #1 target for me, if I was using my LizardMan army against it.
As someone whom has advocated that should I face DE, that I would be inclined to use my Slann with lore of Metal, which has spells that can be very ruinous to such a large unit on round one (the 11+ spell that would do 6 Str damage to the COK's with no armor saves allowed, so keep that in mind.
