OK so with the new stepping up rules "for those who don't know, it means that you always take casualties from the back" Assassins are getting nerfed alot. Does anybody have any ideas on how to use them in 8th ed since if we pop them out they'll kill a few then get butchered with the attacks back.
I was thinking maybe using them solely as character killers which basically means i just call challenges and hope they accept then KB their character....or putting them in a unit of shades and using them as rending star turrets and making sure they never get into combat.
Please share all ideas since i have 3 assassins and they really are my favorite models to use.
Honestly im thinking about using the assassins in my weaker units ie. corsairs rbx to give them a little added punch when they get in CC the days of putting a assassin in shades and scouting seem to be over currently..
Keep in mind Assassins are WS9.. If they want to direct attacks at your assassin it could work in your favour, as a lot more attacks will be missing.
Apart from that I'd make sure to always have a unit champion who can issue challenges. This could help ensure only regular troops can attack your assassin.
Perhaps take War Cry (or shout, I forget) too. Dance of Doom is too expensive, leaving you unable to take all the nice killy upgrades.

I just plan on using them to kill rank and file, even if they die, they are going to get enough CR to make worth your time.
Even in 7th Ed. I always had better luck using assassins for meat packing rather than actual assassination. It's too easy for an enemy character to have just the wargear he needs to survive. I think the most attractive thing about the assassin now is that his points come out of the 'core' category, if I read his entry right. Come to think of it...will it be acceptable in 8th Ed. to run nothing but assassins, or do we still have core unit requirements other than points? Oh, wait, we still need units to hide them in. <Sigh.>

In 2000pts you will still need to fill out 500pts of min core before you can take your first assassin.
Darks Elves 6000ptsWood Elves 500pts (WIP)
Imperial Guard 5000pts
in the new errata it states that assassins dont count as core, special, rare, lord or hero. they are effectively outside the % restrictions
