Hey guys, I'm getting a dark elf army built up finally and I wanted to get everyones opinion on how to deal with war machines? My group has a lot of empire players and I can see it being a problem.
So whats the solution, Shades, Harpies, what do you guys think?
Thanks for the advice!
Shades+ ranged assassin works fine for me.
5shades - (ahw optional) + Assassin ,manbane , rnding stars this gives me 3 shots from the Assasin witha BS of 9 i dont really care about -1 to hit and as most WM are T6-7 im hitting them at S7 even T5 ones get hit at S7 with the above combo. you can see the many reasons why i choose this combo now
As draghkar said. A mobile sorceress (Lore of Shadows with a Dark Peggy/Steed of Shadows spell or a focus familiar) works as well. Drop pit of shades on them and *poof* the warmachine is gone as they automatically fail initiative tests. It's not 100% reliable, but I torched 3 warmachines in a dwarf army my last game doing this.
Here we have any combos: 1.- Shades. Remember that 8th edition the scouts CAN deploy 12" from a enemy, even in his LOS. If you win start first, the work is done. 2.- Sorceress with Lore of Shadows. The identity spell is the best way to avoid that war machines and shot lines do their function correctly. 3.- Dreadlord/Master. Build a character with Cold One, Heavy Armor, Cloak of Sea Dragon, Lance/great weapon/Crimson Death, Pendant of Khaeleth, and you have the perfect killer of them. And he can be used to attract ALL missiles into him the firsts rounds, and he will survive...
Shades work ok, but are still pretty easily killed and you'll be contantly have to fight to make sure you have the numbers to take them on. Plus there are often gun lines guarding the WM's and the BS 5 of Shades is great, but str 3 shots often bouce off those armored and tough dwarves while thiers rip though us. Last game i got stuck between a hill with two gun lines and an organ gun which ended up doing unspeakable things to my 10 Shades.
