Recently managed to snag a large amount of witch elves and I'm pretty pumped to test out the frenzied stabby women next Thursday.
What's the best way to use them? I have a game against Empire next Thursday as part of a campaign, game'll probably be around 2500pts, so I'm debating running a list using the witches, execs and a cauldron.
Any thoughts, tips, hints would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Take hellbron. Nothing better than letting steam tanks charge in and popping them with her.
Against empire i think in combat you will be ok, its just the shooting to worry about so 1 if not 2 cauldrons for ward saves may be needed.
the best plan will be to make sure aswell as the witches that you have maybe 1 or 2 hydras meaning that your opponent must decided to either hit the easy target (witches) or the real danger (hydra).
With execs just be careful not to sink too many points into them, a cauldron working on them will make up for it in combat but at range as with al DE units they will be punished for light armour. I would maybe go for 6-7 wide to maximise attacks, 6 wide on the WE.
Im sure theres nothing there you didnt already realise, sorry couldnt be more help.
I'm currently doing a Cult of Khaine army, atm my main unit is Crone Hellebron and a Death Hag BSB with the Hydra Banner leading a unit of 49 Witch Elves (Full Command, Rune of Khaine and Banner of Eternal Flame). Doesn't do too badly, really need a save buff. 5+ ward from Cauldron is the preference, although I have used the 5+ scaly skin from Lore of Metal, however theres a risk of Hellebron dispelling that from her Amulet of Fire (It works against the first spell used against her/her unit in EACH magic phase).
Anyways, hope you have as much fun with the blood crazy psychos as I have. lolz
So after almost a month, I've only ran the witch elves once. The campaign league I'm playing is made up of almost 75% Empire players on the Forces of Order. Hellblasters, Mortars and Hellfire rockets are not so friendly to witches...and as a result they've spent a lot of time sitting on the shelf.
After playing more games though, I don't think I'll be taking them to the table until larger size point games. Or at least until I end up playing an army other than empire... On the plus side it means I have a lot of time to paint them up, and as everyone knows, painted minis = better dice rolls!
As a side note, the cauldron is definitely one of my favorite units. It's a "must" now in my army lists, the buffs go a long way to increasing the survivability and stabby factor of everything in the army. So awesome I even went out and picked up another one.Why banner of eternal flame? And do gifts of Khaine count as magic items? Or is it possible to run a Hag BSB with the 5+ Ward gift. ASF banner in executioners would be awesome, death hag BSB getting cut to pieces, slightly less awesome.49 Witch Elves (Full Command, Rune of Khaine and Banner of Eternal Flame)
No gifts of Khaine do not count as magic items. Says in the little bit at top of the page.
The Banner of Eternal is because I have had the misfortune to run into lots of Hell Pit Abominations.....revenge is best served with over 60 poisoned flaming attacks. That and the whole causing fear in cavalry etc. Sadly you can't give the Hag the 5+ ward gift as it is 5pts above her allowance. It's possible to give the 5+ ward to the Death BSB, however it affects only the Death hag, not the unit she joins. I prefer the Cauldron for that. I've been considering putting Hellebron on a Cauldron, huge points sink (as pointed out by Gedderz), but the benefits are fantastic. Just my preference.
And there are 2 gifts of Khaine that are Magic Items, the Cloak of Twilight and the Venom Sword. The others aren't and therefore can be taken by more than one model. lolz
Excellent, looks like I better start converting a death hag BSB...No gifts of Khaine do not count as magic items. The witch champion is fine, she's somewhat expendable. It's the BSB I was concerned about, t3 with no save while carrying a magic banner makes me uncomfortable.Sadly you can't give the Hag the 5+ ward gift as it is 5pts above her allowance. It's possible to give the 5+ ward to the Death BSBI read that thread. Personally I don't understand the Hellebron love, rather spend the points elsewhere. Plus the club I game with has somewhat of a dislike for fielding special characters, and a Hellebron BSB'd Cauldron just begs to be hit with a Purple Sun. Too risky. I'm curious to see how it would do though. Although fielding a cauldron'd up hag BSB with the Banner of Nagarythe would be something I'd like to try.I've been considering putting Hellebron on a Cauldron, huge points sink (as pointed out by Gedderz), but the benefits are fantastic. Just my preference.
As for Purple Sun...dispel dice and Amulet of Fire might give some hope for it. Or stick a unit in front to screen, after all, Purple Sun affects the first unit it hits, and only the first unit, since they nerfed it *cry*.
I will give the Hellebron on CoB with the BSB and tell you how it gets on. Might take a couple of games though, as you can't judge something from just 2 games or so. Lolz
Where does it say that? I thought it was any model under or passed over by the template...As for Purple Sun...dispel dice and Amulet of Fire might give some hope for it. Or stick a unit in front to screen, after all, Purple Sun affects the first unit it hits, and only the first unit, since they nerfed it *cry*
