I've looked at the forms and found that people are saying corsairs are better with an extra hand weapon. however I have a friend who runs 30 corsairs in hord formation with hand bows. He says that he can walk them to an enemy fire the hand bows which is 40 shots hitting them on for then they charge and he gets to stand and shoot which is another 40 shots and then most likely he gets to attack first which is probably about another 10 to 20 hits. To me this seems amazing. So my question is does it work or are they better off with the extra hand weapon why or why not because I'm definitely running corsairs I just want the best setup to do the most damage with.
any help would be greatly appreciated thanks
Yes this can work very well, especially if you take a standard bearer with the Sea serpent standard, or a bsb with the Hydra banner you will get those lost attacks back. Or both gives you an additional attack. Effectively you could have
full com, hand bows, Reaver has a pair
Sea Serpent Standard
thats 42 shots, 42 stand and shoot, and 22 attacks(if your fighting a normal 5 front rank unit)
full com, hand bows, reaver has pair,
Sea Serpent Standard
Hydra Banner, pair of hand bows, and whatever armour you want to give
making:24 shots, 24 stand and shoot, and 31(if your fighting a normal 5 front rank unit)
thanks man, now if i gave them the see serpent standard there frenzy so the have to attempt to charge but I can still shoot if they fail the charge right, but if I make it there's no way of shooting so it would be best to give them the hydra banner but I don't know if the points are Worth it.
Very True, a BSB without a magic banner will work. I just suggested the Hydra Banner for another attack.
thanks so you think this setup will work better than the extra had weapon or is it is better to go with that.
I have 3 units of Corsairs in my collection: 20 and 19 with 2HW and 19 with RHBs. I find it's all down to personal preference and what you want your Corsair unit to do. I find RHBs with the Banner of Murder work as a nasty surprise for lightly armoured units. Chuck in an Assassin with Rending Stars for extra mugging. I tend to be sneaky and move into range of an enemies flank, and just walk round them, keeping out the target units charge arc whilst avoiding any enemy units. Sure it may be more effective to unload a salvo of bolts into the enemy then charge in next turn, but following a unit around and peppering the with a non-stop hail of bolts is surprisingly fun, particularly when your opponent gets tunnel vision and forgets the rest of your army thats standing and laughing.
Yes that is cruel and sadistic.
I personally give them the banner of murder for armor piercing. Having that many shots on the corsairs for shooting / standing and shooting / and then finally hth all armor piercing is going to cause some wounds. I also like to run them horde for the shooting and the stand and shoot and if the unit is small then after the first round of combat i will rank them up.
think as mentioned earlier the HW or HB really does come down to how you play them. As of late I have been running them in smaller groups on 15 in 2k battles which has caught many players off guard when my unit strikes which 21 attacks using the extra HW and banner. However while there have been many times that i have been happy with the extra cc attacks I sure would not blame someone for wanting to reach out and touch someone with the bows even though 8 inches has always been a hard distance to get into and not charging or be charged

today I assembled 10 corsairs. I gave them an additional HW cause I like combat hitting units. I hope I didn´t make a huge misstake here??
but if you like, as I said, hitting (combat) units, then add. HW should work better, right?
