I'm having difficulty transporting my entire Dark Elves army around aswell as other armies to boot.
My army includes 2 Hydras and a Cauldron of Blood along with 12 CoK which currently reside in a toolbox padded out with foam so they don't get broken. But this means that I have to carry about the toolbox with my vehicles in. It also means that the infantry have also be carried around in one of the large sized GW carry cases, which also holds another army.
Primarily a problem with my Dark Eldar army but also with some others such as Daemons, Tyranids and Dark Elves due to the amount of large creatures they have. My idea was to just switch the large stuff out of one toolbox each time I go to my local club and leave the rest on top of my shelf and then trade them in whenever I want to use them.
I also use two of the large GW carry cases to transport the infantry and which between them holds the 4 armies.
Dark Eldar and Dark Elves in one case. Daemons, with modified foam because they have less infantry and the bloodcrushes fit in there and Tyranids.
All in all it's a lot of swapping this and that and it's becoming quite a hassle.
I was just wondering how everyone else transports there stuff.
I have one of the £30 (now £35) cases...I can fit my 2K High Elf Army in there with my 1.5K Eldar. I tend to pick an army list (or two or three) for the weekend and stick with that, then rotate the next week.
The bottom layer has most of the slots cut out (after years of carrying tanks from an old Tau army) to accomodate Bolt Throwers, Hydrs and Chariots. I also stick plastics (like Spearmen, Crossbowmen) in a tupperware container than I pad out and carry in a bag (usually containing dice and books too). Don't really have the room to carry Dragons about (apart from an old toolbox but not enough foam to pad it out, plus it's pretty small). Need to get my hands on one of the bigger cases with large slots in it.

I have all my stuff magnetized. Rare earth magnets on bottom of models (1 for infantry, 1 for cavalry, 2 for chariots, 2 on the hydra base, 2 on manticore and dark peg base). My movement trays also have magnets on the bottom, and tin on top, so the models stick to the movement tray. Then I just picked up a couple big red metal toolboxes from Rona (Home depot, Canadian Tire, or whatever hardware store you have nearby). Models stick to the move trays, trays stick to the toolbox.
All in all I think I spent about $60, for magnets, tin sheeting and two toolboxes. And I have about 6000 pts worth of models. My bolt throwers and two cauldrons don't have bases, so I picked up some cheap 1" thick camping foam, glued it together to make it 2" thick, cut it to fit in the end of one of the toolboxes and then custom cut out holes to fit the oddly shaped cauldron and RBTs.
The upside to this method is I don't have to waste time putting all my models on their movement trays. They're already all laid out and ready to go. It might not work as well for 40k models as they don't use move trays. Also, I don't recommend flying with your models this way, but if you're just travelling with them in the trunk of your car they're fine. Oh, and the tray of the toolbox still has space to hold an army book, mini rulebook, templates, dice, tape measure, an army list folder with space left over.
