    possible list?? hobby army!

I just wanna know if it´s possible to play with nothing but the battalion box and a Supreme sorceress/ sorceress or master/ dreadlord. this will be the start of my DE army and I´ll probably just paint the stuff and maybe play with it a few times before I add more units.
the main reason for this is my money limit. but eventually, I will have earned some money, so then I can, as I said, buy some more stuff.
as soon as I get my hands on a DE army book (no, I still haven´t bought 1 yet),
I´ll post a possible army list.

any tips of what units I should start with after my battalion?? I think a box of warriors would be good, and later a hydra (they are so cool!)

    tips? suggestions? Ideas?

Yep, it is possible as you'll have enough Core for at least 1000pts, possibly 1500pts at a push. You could get a cheap Dreadlord or a Lvl 3 with 25pts of magic items in 1000pts, or a more expensive one in 1500pts. It is a good force for playtesting, getting used to the strengths of the army.

As for later units, more warriors and a Hydra seems like a good idea.

    ok, that´s good to know
I can use the battalion box and a SS as a lord and a master as hero.
do you think I could make a 1500pts list with the battalion, more warriors, a hydra, some shades (not the first priority though...)
and ofc the characters I just mentioned??

    thank you for your help.

The Battalion (if assembled as; 12 Spearmen w/Shields + FC, 16 Crossbowmen, 20 Corsairs w/FC and 5 Cold One Knights w/Full Command) clocks in at 844pts, not including Magic Banners/Magic Items. Therefore, the addition of a Master, Supreme Sorceress, a Hydra and more Warriors would drive it up to 1500pts quite easily. You may even find you might struggle to find points to put a unit of Shades in. Thats part of the joys of Warhammer...finding you don't have enough points spare.....

The good thing about the Battalion box is that it gives you a good starting point to build an army from (or to expand your army) and is a viable and strong force to begin with. I'm considering getting another one actually, either to add to my current collection or to start off my second "splinter force" (I have the main army (generic/Naggarond) and then my Cult of Khaine "splinter" which can either add to the main force or be fielded as a seperate army. The next planned "splinter" is something a little bit different and technically should be a seperate army as they can't be fielded along my main army due to background issues). It is a good buy.

sweet! the thing is that I´m not sure if I want a unit of shades. maybe they are good at destroying warmachines, but they seem pretty plain and rather booring to paint.
when I have bought and finished something (a unit of warriors or whatever, should I then post a link to the picture??
or can you just paste a picure right onto a reply???

Shades do have their uses, I take them sometimes as an "escort" for a Rending Stars/Manbane Assassin, or just for general harrassment of the enemy. I do have 5 of the normal Shades, although they've been "relegated" and I now have another 10 Shades that use the new Dark Eldar Mandrake models...I'll post up a couple of photos on me blog or this thread once they're finished.

Have you considered Mandrakes as your shades?

The Dark Eldar Mandrakes seem like nice proxies, with a similar role in the game :p
I don't care what the colour of your marines is, what matters is the codex on the table, and wether i can easily identify what they mean ;) (My view on WYSIWYG)
I play:Dark Eldar, Lamenters, Grey Knights (soon to become pre-heresy thousand sons)
