What Hero/Lord in sml pt. games (500-1k)

    Hello,
New to the Dark Kin & getting ready to gear up for a mini campaign some friends are putting together to get myself & a couple other players into warhammer. We'll start from 500 & move up. My question is what is the most effective build/characters under 500-1k, after that I should be able to take it from there. My army will be filled mostly with corsairs & crossbowmen as I hate the look of spearmen(crossbowmen too but need there range), after that its just what I can fit.
    I would appreciate any help.

For 500pts, you really want a Master. Sorceress are okay in 500pts..although she can only be lvl 1 you can always give her the Tome of Furion (+1 spell) or a Dispel Scroll. It's not going to be too game-changing though.

A Master on the other hand gives you a Ld9 General and a decent fighter who should have no trouble with the small units you'll face at 500pts. If he's on foot, give him a Halberd and the Armour of Darkness. This sees him enter in at just over 100pts with 3 WS6 I7 S5 attacks and a 1+ Armour save to boot.

For 1000pt games a Lvl 2 Sorceress becomes very useful. Don't bother with a Supreme Sorceress, she'll be a naked Lvl 3 and will die too easily (plus she eats up nearly a quarter of your points). The Lvl 2 can easily control a magic phase at this level, thanks to having Druchii Sorcery and Power of Darkness she can be very, very hard to shut down.

The Master can be expanded with more equipment or he could become a Dreadlord. A Dreadlord with the Armour of Eternal Servitude, Lance and Sea Dragon Cloak and a Cold One puts him at about 200pts, but he will most certainly make his presence felt.

At these levels you're going usually going to have a small and fragile yet very elite army with Dark Elves, so a powerful Character usually brings a lot of hurt. Don't bother with a BSB, you won't really need him until 1500pts+ (although I've been running around without one in my last few 2.5/3k games and nothing too drastic has happened...yet).
    Fantasy - Dark Elves - 10,000pts, High Elves - 3-4000pts \/ 40K - Eldar - 2000pts, Word Bearer CSMs - 2000pts.
6th Ed Word Bearers results - 4W, 0D, 0L. Black Mace Tally - Nightbringer, Ghazkull Thraka

    Hi,

At 1,000 points I only ever take one character - a level 2 Sorceress with Dark Magic on a Pegasus, give her the Pendant of Khaeleth and the Tome of Furion and you're good to go!

I think Ravenblade has it right about the Master at 500 points, at this level he'll be a mean fighter. At such a small point level I feel he would bring much more to your army than a level 1 sorceress.

    Hope that helps
