3k fluff competitive list ideas

hey good folks ive been distracted by life so havnt seriously been playing my dark elves for a few months but am coming back over to the great dark ones and want some help to get me going again...

id like to make a list that would be very competitive and mean but still have a good element of fluff to it so i can impress folks at my local hobby shop. Only two fluff ideas I can really come up with are of course a khainite army which im not a huge fan of squishy dark elves trying to do close combat (mostly the people i play do things like WoC or even TK which tend to kick the butt of my dark elves when i try pure close combat) or something based around Malus and cold ones...maybe a calvary list with dark riders, cold ones, and maybe a chariot? any ideas would be greatly apreciated!

Both themes are feasible and there is nothing wrong with either!

I've run a Malus' raiding party theme a few times, have him with a CoK bus to act as his bodyguard, corsairs and dark riders as core units, witch elves and shades as special, and a hydra just for good measure (didn't really go with my fluff, but one Hydra is pretty much mandatory for me ). Add a sorceress for magic defence and you're good to go!

Personally, I play Beastmaster themed armies and play strictly non-Khainite (okay, so I do have some WE but I don't use 'em very often, and when I do it's usually... just because, lol). So, pegasus mounted characters, dark riders, cold one knights/chariots, harpies, shades, a hydra or two and a dragonlord/sorceress will all be included at 3,000 points. The only thing that I don't use is a Manticore, yes I have the model, but it has never done me much good, would much rather have a dragon any day.

Here's a few ideas that immediately spring to mind:
Black Ark raiding party
Watchtower Garrison
All cavalry/infantry
A convent of sorceresses
True Khainite
Beastmaster (the best theme )
Or, a favourite of mine, "The Symmetry of Hatred" where you have to write a perfectly symmetrical army list!

There's plenty of scope for any sort of theme if you put some thought into it!

Pure Khainite is always a good laugh, although you do need lots of bodies....like blocks of 50 Witch Elves. Pure Khainite is positively hilarious when you can put down Crone Hellebron, 49 Witch Elves and a Cauldron BSB with 350pts left to spend at 1.5k. At 3k I'd probably run 2 blocks of 50 Witch Elves for Core, a block of 50 Executioners, 1-3 Cauldrons with Shadowblade and a bunch of Assassins along with whatever I've got points to spare on.

One 3k list I've had a good run with is an all-cavalry army (plus 25 Corsairs as I'm 10 Dark Riders short on Core). The main focus of that is Malus and 2 units of 9 Knights, which doesn't really play nicely I've noticed.

I did run a variation of the City Guard list. Nothing but 70 Spearmen, 76 Crossbowmen, 7 Bolt Throwers and a bunch of Sorceresses with a BSB with a Crossbow and a Dreadlord with Lifetaker and the Guiding Eye. It made for a good laugh.

The Raider style lists are always a good bet too.

hhmm thanks for the ideas! we are running a little tourny 3 games 3 seperate lists and random match ups so i dont know what army list will fight what but so far im set on a city guard list a khainite list and maybe a slight tweak on the calvary list idea into a "beast" list since like grift i enjoy my hydra fun i enjoy my crossbolts too but i guess i could leave them out for a list or two!
