Pain is life, while I feel pain I still live, and while I still live I will seek vengance.
We are few but strong in will
The last with pagan blood
We fought the world with burning steel
Now we sit in Hall of Gods

They are like all elves, not very ''beginner friendly'', cause mistakes can hurt you really much.

They however are a really cool army and after the revision became a threath to be recognised.

If he likes the models really much, and their fluff and agressive playing style, he just should play them (Y)

He will lose some games maybe in the beggining, but after some time he will begin to learn how to use them, and will start winning.

No, they are not very good as a biggner army. They are soo weak , but thats all i would expect form poncy elves. GO Greenskins.

Try orcs and goblins?

They can difficult to use in the beginning but you'll grasp it sooner or later if you do collect them. It won't take you TOO long... when me and my friend first played.. he beat me every time with his **** dark rdiers and went masss rxb in 500 points... me no range and me have to walk up to him while he shoot me to little pieces. My necro... was silenced by a reapeter bolt.

Enough ranting... *whacks myself ont he head*

If you had experience with another army... then I think you should try them out.

*I mean your friend*

pleasse try to say normal things instead of that.

He's talking about a hard decision you know :hmm: .

They also aren't weak or such, that's just what you think they are.

They are good in CC,can deal some good damage in shooting, have an own cool lore with always +1 for casting a spell

They only all got T3 and don't have such good armor...BUT they have got spells which can stop units from shooting for one or 2 turns

The problem with beginners and DE is that most beginners just want to get their models in base to base contact with the enemy as soon as possible, and DE don't play that way. You have to set up multiple charges and support units with others in their list in order for them to be most effective.

So with this in mind, they are not the most beginner friendly army, but after a few battles and with base rules knowledge, you can adapt your playing style to them pretty quickly.
The iron crowned is getting closer,
Swings his hammer down on him,
Like a thunderstorm he's crushing,
Down the Noldor's proudest king.

Under my foot, so hopeless it seems.
You've troubled my day, now feel the pain.

I would agree Elves are weak and "Poncy" but Dark Elves are an exception. Although I play Orcs I wished that I started Dark Elves instead. They are really cool. As for your question don't make the mistake I made, go for the DE.

He might be discouraged by the fact that his toughnesss 3 elves cant hold it in the combat even his special executionares will not hold out in battles of attrition so i dont think he'll be tactically smart enough to avoid his t 3 problem let him play w/ one of your armies if u have any let him read other army books and see what he likes

...So? No elves are good for that kind of battle (maybe exept Black Guard), that`s what Chaos and Black Orcs do. We on the other hand, don`t need to fight those kinds of battles, as we either smash through our enemies in one round of combat or else only enters it, when we know our flankers are on the way to rout our puny enemies...

@topic: Yes I think DE can be a good army to start with, if he`s got enough tactical sense to play on the armys strenghts (I sure didn`t when I started, but now, a few years later, my statistics are beguinning to look rather encouraging )
What's the strength of tincan brets?
Charging lance and extra ranks
Charge their flanks with some Dark Riders,
Give the silly knights some spanks!
