Bought a Hydra this week since it was 1/2 price and painted great. The clerk gave me a (very badly painted) Cauldron of Blood that was sitting on the shelf. A bath in Superclean is taking care of that.
I'll admit that I haven't fought my Dark Elves but a couple of times, so I'm wondering what is the minimun point games you'd play in before using either of these in your force.
They're both rare choices, so the minimum points game you'll need before fielding them both is 2,000.
The iron crowned is getting closer,
Swings his hammer down on him,
Like a thunderstorm he's crushing,
Down the Noldor's proudest king.
Under my foot, so hopeless it seems.
You've troubled my day, now feel the pain.

And even in a 2000 point army I woudn't suggest using both, as it leaves no room for repeating bolt throwers. The cauldron of blood is great but ideally you then need to have at least 2 units of witch elves to make it worth while, not too much of a problem as they are good but very easy to kill. The hydra can be a pretty effective stand alone unit as it is scary and eats things.
