i have decided to start collecting the Druchii. i collect the dwarves too, nearly 2000pts so want to start the dark elves for something a little different to the dwarves.
wondering if this is a good 1000pts plan
SORCERESS: level 2, darkstar cloak- 175pts
NOBLE: cold one, heavy armour, sea dragon cloak, sheild, hydra blade- 153pts be with the COK
5 COLD ONE KNIGHTS: full command- 190pts
15 CORSAIRS: full command, standard of slaughter- 210pts
16 WARRIORS: sheilds, full command- 153pts
1 REAPER BOLT THROWER 100pts
not sure wether to move standard of slaughter to COK
also wondering if i need wariors with repeater crossbows?
all help will be appreciated
Hi... welcome to the land of chill (Y)
Your army is pretty decent, but it lacks one thing that's DEs biggest pro... mobility.
If dogs are mans best friend then Dark Riders are a DE commanders best friends.
Ask yourself if you want to play offence or deffence?
If offence ditch the spears and buy a unit of 5 Dark Riders w.rxbs insetad... with full command they cost 155pts. If you wanna play defence then ditch the corsairs instead.
Keeping the Spears is cheaper money-wise too if you haven't already bought your models.
Oh and I've been telling 'everyone' to mount Sorceress on a Dark Steed and let her ride with your Dark Riders, that way you'll almost never be out of range with your spells. But if you want a sorceress on dark steed you'll have to mailorder it, a mounted sorceress and a dark steed head spure and a dark steed body spure. This one is rather risky but if you don't want her on a dark steed but want to be in range for spells from the begining you can give her 'The Cloak of Dark Souls', making her have scout rule you can deploy her rather near the enemy, but don't expect her to survive long though... she usually hold for a turn or two, but if you're lucky you can blast away some nasty spells and cripple your enemies pretty bad right away.
When I play with a sorceress I usually tries to have Black Horror (litterealy that spell rocks), so I usually take Tome of Furion (and use up all my Power Dices to cast it), and Crystal of Midnight if I know that my enemy have a wizzard otherwise I also like Wand of Kharaidon.
On the noble Hydra blade is only good to take out low T and bad Sv opponents (other elves, skaven, gobbos etc etc) against better Sv (1+, 2+) opponents I'd take Blade of Ruin and high T opponent I'd take Sword of Might and Shield of Ghrond that will make your Noble S5 T4 (he will still have T3 but all attacks will have -1S so it's the same effect ass having T4). I find the later one best allround.
For the banner I personally think war banner is better when it grants you +1 to combat resolution every round instead of a one timer of a 1D3 where 33% you'll still getting only +1. And I think it'll be better of with your COKs if you meet tough breaking armies (skaven, lizardmen). And it'll be better on your Warrior/Corsair blok if you meet hard hitting enemies (Chaos, Ogers).
With that setup you can acctually have a City Garrison army, can get the army list here.
Letting your warriors be city guards instead allowes you to have the first rank with rxbs and the rest with spears. But they'll cost 9pts/warrior. But having a front with rxbs helps your RBT alot and they'll have 4+Sv when they fight in CC and get to fight with 2 ranks.

thank you for the help. i wasn't sure the dark riders were that useful and was going to avoid taking them but thinking about it they do provide you with fast movement and can shoot at weak units.
my army has definately got to be offensive just because i am also a dwarf collector and making a deffensive dark elve army would be broing. its not the druchii way.
hehe Dark Riders anoying as hell to you opponent ... they may not seeme strong but their main purpose is to shoot at enemies early (and hopefully provoking your opponent :p), give range to your spells (if your sorceress is riding with them), luring enemies to charge unwanted charges and sometime block marching.
They're good at rearing and flanking when needed too. So their role isn't tha accually fighting but to make your opponent to make stupid mistakes and lure them in to traps.
Yes DE is a very offencive army to play with but they have very specialized units, so it can be pretty hard to play them at the begining, but you'll learn what to take against what later on.
