Hey i have a problem....i wanted to start Warhammer 40k but my friend plays Fantasy so i thought i would start fantasy and viewing all the races i think i would want to be 1 of 3 races...(Dark Elves, Chaos, or Vampire counts) Im kinda leaning torward Dark Elves...only problem i have is that my friend plays Lizardmen and Wood Elfs....
My Question to all the Dark Elves is...
Whats the Difficulty in Beating Wood Elfs and Lizardmen?
Someone PLZ help me out here

Dark Elves are probably the least forgiving of the armies you're interested in. The Vampire counts are slower but mostly cause fear. Chaos - depending on your preference is generally considered easier to play (a more robust army for beginners). I personally enjoy the challenge of DE and recommend them. Against Wood Elves they are reasonably well matched (although the new army book has some interesting options that will give you a shock). Against Lizardmen they need to use their missile fire and speed to advantage. You should probably avoid going toe-to-toe with Lizards.
DarknessLurkz... I've to say choose DE... cause Chaos can be outright boring to play sometimes (lack of variation... even if they got tons of models more than other armies), Vampire Count is too much power play on their characters for my taste... your whole army relies on your über strong characters... doesn't sound fun.
DE is more strategy as every unit in DE Army has it's own important role. Yes they can be hard to play sometimes but it's much more fun than the other two armies (besides DE got the nicest looking models of the two armies too ).
About strategy I've wrote a short lizzy strategy suggestion in the DE tactics thread. I haven't played against the new woodies so I can't give you any advice against them... but they should be similar to other elves.
You could try looking at a Cult of Slaanesh army, that gives you the option of trying out dark elf units and integrating some chaos units as well.
If you opt to use dark elves only, wood elves can be a pain as they shoot a lot at longer range than you have and can have treemen (ideal bolt thrower target though) and all manners of goodies. Your magic against them is pretty useful. Use dark riders to draw your opponent into charges or just rock up flanks and shoot woos elves in the face with repeating crossbows from point blank range.
Lizards are a case of sit back and shoot the hell out of them, then shoot them some more. Your magic will be lucky to get through what they can have and your infantry units are far more fragile than theirs.

Yeah, I'd say cult of slaanesh but Lurch beat me to it by like more than 2 weeks, yeah, in cult of slannesh, you can take a mixture of dark elf and chaos lists, this creates an army that has rock hard units (chaos) and fast and shooty units (dark elves) and it (in my experience) can be used to great effect and can create a very balanced army. Some say the list is too powerful but it all depends on how you play your army and likewise with your opponent. Also, I think dark elves are alot more fluffy than Vampire Counts, Chaos or even Cult of Slaanesh.
In case you didn't know, you can find to cult of slaanesh rules in the storm of chaos rulebook.
