We get loaded with lots of good Special units. The hard part is deciding which ones to bring and which to leave behind. So what is your favorite? I <3 the Shades and Execuioners. Don't care too much for Witches; they get shot too much. Harpies are good if you have something behind enemy lines that has to be taken out fast. Haven't tried the chariot yet but looks pretty good. The 5+ save, strike last thing on the executioners kind of sucks but they slap the stoopid outta stuff when they start hittin. Shades, no army should EVER be with out a scout unit. RXBs at close range on the first turn, hehehe. I just wish we got more special choices.
favorite as in most uses it'll be shades and cold one knights
but fluff wise and model design I've to go with the executioners
Yeah, the specials in the DE are cool.
My favourites are the shades and cold one knights (COK).
Exec's are cool against other elf armies and skaven etc...
Witch elves I like, but just like cabbitmatt says, they get shot way to much...Although they work wonders against vamp counts and beastmen - armies that have little or no range - except for magic. Thus they tend to last longer.
Shades are the stuff. There is debate about whether to take their light armour or not. I dont....
Harpies...hmmm, i have never used them and dont have the models. They just arnt my thing.
I don't totally agree with you there... executioners are too fragile against other elf and skaven... those armies thend to shoot very much and as far as I know those 5+sv executioners don't last long against massed shooting. The elf armies have just about the same I as you and skaven are very close behind... but ofcause executioners strike last if they don't get the carge. Skaven got next to none expensive models, shure the elves do have lots of expensive models but there the I comes in play again... you can't strike efter elves if you got fragile models. But since both elf and skaven units have low T and bad Sv... I'd suggest the best method is to shoot them down.Originally Posted by Reignfire
I like to use them against armies that have little shooting but really expensive models... like chaos mortals or bretonia. Imagine your opponents chaos knights getting stuck at your big 'cheap' warrior regiment and you flank them with executioners... each killing blow will generate 33+VPs ... don't know if pegasus knights count as mas sized units... but if you killing blow a Grail Knight or Questing Knight you'll make your opponent cry as well .
They're also nice to help your characters go character hunting... imagine your character battling a vampire and you flank with executioners... will the vampire attack you character that pose a seroius threat or you executioners that can killing blow it?
I think Witchelves will do good agains lizzardmen, O&G and Ogre Kingdom too as they have a higher T than usual but pretty bad sv. Shure all those armies have irritating units that shoot... but frankly they arn't that good at shooting.
... ppl accually are willing to pay for 6+sv!?... my god hit them with a stick or something
I've used harpies a couple of times... as they fit in quite well in my pirate/raider theme army ^^ anyways they are very good at killing enemy archers and warmachine crew. I like to think that they've the same role as shades or dark riders... but their strength lies in CC instead of shooting.
But as I like shades more I use them more in my lists .Accually I think DE got enough specials... as the special slots tend to get used up the fastest of all slots. I'd like to see more hero/lord type units... I'd love to se an assassin lord or a witch hero. Otherwise I'd like to se a new rare choice... it seemes that the only rare ppl choose nowdays are the boltthrowers... shure they're good but I'd like to see more rare choices that you can use more often than black guard, hydra and culdron of blood.Originally Posted by cabbitmatt
I think it'll be nice if we got another core unit too... but I can't think of any good concept for a new core unit ATM.
