They are very fast, and are used alot to get behind enemy lines, taking pot shots at the enemy with reapeter cross bows. Often deployed on the flank they usally advance forward as fast as possible doing there best to stay out of enemy line of site of any Shooty units. Try getting close to enemy units as to deny them march movement, slowing them down and letting your main force react as it pleases. Give them RXBs to get a couple of pot shots off against low save units. Also they can be used to wipe out a Heavy weapon team with there spears.
Another use is to give them only a muscian, then lure the enemy into charging them, then fleeing. Use this to put the enemy in a hard to manavour postion, or in the charge range of say CoK, a chariot, exectuinars, witch elves ect.
thanks, but are rxbs really worth it? they cost alot and from my experience i really dont get much use out of them

Against lightly armoured foes I would say they are worth it, Rember that dark riders are light calv, so you can fire on the march, and if your denying the enemy march movments you will be in short range so you won't get another -1 to hit modifier on you with 10-16 shots (I personally wouldn't take a unit of more then 8 dark riders). Especially if you have other shooting in your army (RBT or Dark Elf Warriors with RBX) those few extra wounds could cause the enemy to take a panic test.
thanks for the help, what do you recommend the unit size be, i know you said no more than 8, i usually use about 5, do u think that too small?
Depends on the size of the game, in 1k points a unit of 5 is good, in 2k points, if your only using 1 unit 8 is a good size, though using two 5 strong isn't a bad idea either, and have them advance opposite sides of the battlefeild.
Dark Riders have a lot of uses- War Machine killing, Mage Hunting, march blocking, flanking, drawing charges, things like that. They are the Dark Elves most versatile unit, and a unit that no army can be without.
How should you take them?
Take them in units of 5 with crossbows and a musician. This is a 127 point unit.
How many units should you take?
In a 2000 point game, 3 is good. In more points, take more units. Heck, you can take more in a 2000 points game, it's not a bad idea.
i think ill try that after christmas when i have the cash to buy more dark riders. thanks for the help
