So, i play against Lizardmen alot, and i know that a big part of the Darkelf army is using phycology agasint the enemy. Does anyone here besides me have trouble with the Lizardmen Cold Blooded rule, cause it seems to hurt me big time in games against them.
Post your thoughts
I'm very interested as well in hearing what other DE players do to deal with lizzies. The cold blooded rule seems to always kick my @$$.
From a lizardman point of view, what forms of psychology are you having trouble with? I can only think of three terror causing units and one fear causing unit that would invoke psychology, or is there something else I'm missing besides the dragon, hydra, manticore and cold ones? I'm just curious.
lets see, they always pass stupidity, they always pass monster reaction tests, they always pass their break tests, they always pass their stand tests, they pass the panic check after black horror, they pass against terror and fear units i have, they pass against Cry of War (though i dont know anyone who uses that ).
It also makes the dark sword and death mask pointless, so they bug the crap out of me everytime i play against them. I usually only win by a hair or lose big time against them because of that 1 rule lol.
Well i cant help u fighting with DE against lizards cos i'v only played the scalies once and that was with CoS. But i supose it would be similar between the two armies.
What i did is this:
- I took HEAPS of magic (it was 3500pts and i took - Morathi, 2 L2 Sorceresses, an Anointed with a L2 upgrade (only for the extra dice) and 2 spell bound items - the wand of the kharaidon and the banner of wrath, along with LOTS of magic deffence).
- I concentrated my magic, so in one turn 2 units got hammered by my 11 powerdice (dark star cloak) and the two spell bound items. This put big holes in his line.
- I used 2 RBT's to hammer his big things
- B'cos i had planned on neutralising his magic i took 2 big units of devoted, 20 in each.
- these galls cut through his infantry like ribbons.
- I used heavily armoured guys to take down the skinks on my flanks.
and i won
Tis simple dont rely on them failing tests unless they are skinks, which even then dont hold ur breath
ever tried just beating the hell out of the units
ps dark elfs arnt a psycology army. they rely on devious manuvers to hit an unprotected unit from all sides
cant argue with that logic!!ever tried just beating the hell out of the units
I always say there is a thin line between bravery & stupidty, and simialrly with fear & intelligence.. If those lizzies dont wanna run away.. i say its stupid.. not brave.
so yeah.. 'just beat the hell out of them'. lol

Oh, Skinks will run away. Ld5, even with Cold-Blooded, means they're only marginally more brave than Common Goblins.
But Saurus have Ld8. Do you usually rely on psychology to win against Ld8 stuff? To me, it sounds like a recipe for disaster. Sure, Terror can be useful against Saurus, Elves and Knights, but I wouldn't construct a psychology-reliant army if I knew I was facing some of the aforementioned.
Use Light, Beasts, Metal instead of Heavens
NecroLords: Use at least one Death Mage
Brets: Use Peasants&Damsels
Skaven: Don't use Skryre SAD
Tis why our monsters are the terror causers.
Against low LD units like skinks or skaven these beasts can cause a large amount to turn tail and flee
Against more formidible LD units like drawfs we co-ordinate a pretty attack of spearmen in the front to anchor Hydrae in the flanks and Mantis in the rear that way if they have to roll the die it will be for how far they flee from you
As a Lizardmen player, and an old Dark Elf player, I have great experience with both. With Sauruses, you basically need to focus your fire on them. RBTs and crossbow fire should do it. Regular sauruses only have a 5+ save versus shooting, so with a repeater shot they wouldn't save. Don't expect saurus to run, but whittle them down. Then finish them off when they lose ranks and unit strength in hand to hand.
With skinks, they don't benefit from leadership of characters or general as they are skirmishers. Panic tests and terror is deadly for them. Fire once at a unit, and it should flee. The same goes for salamanders with leadership 5 as well. Kroxigor may seem really mean, but they only have leadership 7. They break from ranked units every time. Send a unit of spearmen at Kroxis and they're gone (probably).
Hope that helped. Hope the Lizardmen player doesn't take a slann with a 2+ ward save to ranged attacks.
