i have a 2000 pt army, in it is a high sorceress, a noble, a sorceress, and a beastmaster on a manticore. it seems to me that i only have 4 characters but my all my slots are filled, is this legal?
Beer, Pipes, and Guns... Dwarves had the right idea.
I'm not sure about this but I think a beastmaster on a manticore takes up an
extra hero slot. I don't have access to my books right now though.
So you may have to drop one of the other characters or change the beastmaster.
I find DE characters are a bit expensive as they are all fairly easy to wound
(low toughness) and you are paying for High WS and I. These come into
pay less often than S or Ld (which are worth paying for, IMHO).
In 2K points I tend to go for 2 or 3 characters, and spend the points freed
up on an extra chariot or unit of dark riders/Xbows
Yeah you're right, I just checked and bestmaster on manticore takes two slots so it would be illegal... Thats seems strange, usually only dragons take an extra slot. Even the likes of winged nightmares and griffons don't use a hero slot.
I'm guessing it's so that you can't take 3 beastmasters on Manticores
in 2000 points!
The beastmaster is almost as cheap as a goblin hero and the manticore is
a massive increase in ability - especially as they don't need a monster
reaction test when the beastmaster dies.
in 2k pts you get up to 4 heroes and up to 1 lord, and its 4 characters total, mantacores and dragons count as hero slots so you have 4 heroes, and 1 lord which would be 1 over the character limits
Darks Elves 6000ptsWood Elves 500pts (WIP)
Imperial Guard 5000pts
Points wise, i always TRY to get about 35% to 30% of my total army size used up as characters. Mind, it is often VERY hard to do this, 'specially with a manticore.
Yep. just dont forget that manticores ONLY take up a hero slot if a BEASTMASTER rider it. You can put a noble on them and it wont take up the extra slot, but it will cost more.

Nobles can't take manticores... only beastmaster, highborn and high sorceress can choose to ride a manticore. That's what makes the beastmaster so special... he allowes you to ride a monster while still beeing a hero lever character.Originally Posted by DA_recruit
