Just wondering cos im deciding an army and dont wnna play what everyone elsedoes.
At my local store there is only one other guy that fields Dark Elves. Other than me that is - I just started collecting them! Going to take it slow, a few models here and there, paint 'em up as good as I possibly can.
Just got some warriors and executioners.
As for collecting things that other people collect, I suppose it can be a little bit off-putting if it seems that you are, but on the other hand, I believe that you should go with something that you personally like the feel/look of, regardless of what other people are doing.
And if you begin the same army as many others, then you do have 1 massive advantage - you can really take a theme army to the max, and make all the oldies look boring. They wont be able to compete as they can't change all their old models! And even if some of theirs are themed, you can still do something different. That way, you'll have the same army book, but different looking models, and possibly a different style overall army to boot.

Also, you should google "garfield minus garfield". Awesome.
