I thought I'd put together a thread to gather various ideas on how to protect our oh-so fragile sorceresses. Im having a bit of difficulty with it lately. Particularly when I put her with a unit of Dark Riders.
Her latest undoing was a unit of Chaos screamers charging her. I didnt want to flee, with a 3D6 persue, they had an even chance of catching. She survived the first round, then took a few down with a Drain life spell, but was finished off in the next round.
If you dont put her WITH the unit of dark riders, does she still gain the ability to choose 'flee' as a charge reaction? (for being on a dark steed) Im thinking no..
Part of the problem seems to be that I always put my DR's on the flank, which leaves them somewhat cornered when things go after them.. Perhaps closer to the centre might help?
Is it worth giving DR's a Herald just to challenge the enemy champ? Thats 1 less model that can attack her (if she is right next to the herald).

- I can't see why a Sorc shouldn't be able to flee as charge reaction. But I'm no expert...
- I always put mine near my infantry blocks or in small x-bow regiments near army centre.
- And finally, I wouldn't pick a herald if you use DR for flank charges (sounds like you do).
Rork edit: Woah! Check your spelling - you only give "special chocies" to your girlfriend.
all units unless stated otherwise may allway flee as a charge reaction. (ie dwarf warmachine crews may never flee as its a part of their rules, but any other unit in the dwarf army may flee such as the gyro copter.)If you dont put her WITH the unit of dark riders, does she still gain the ability to choose 'flee' as a charge reaction? (for being on a dark steed) Im thinking no..

I do what Paz mentioned, putting her in a unit of 10 X-bowmen. They're usually far out of combat, and many of the spells we use have a pretty good reach. if you get charged you can drop her into a back rank to buy a little time to assist.
When I have a second caster is when I put them with the dark riders. I just wait till my charge targets aren't unmanagble before I use that unit to flank and just shoot/cast with it until then.
I find it depends on what magic lores I'm using, and what my opponents army consists of. If I take dark magic then she'll usually sit with some crossbow elves. If I'm taking shadow for example, with many spells having only 12 inch range, she'll usually join a unit of dark riders. For this reason I usually mount my sorceresses just so that they have options. And if you end up against an opponent like bretts or chaos with very little shooting, the mount can allow you to get right in between enemy blocks and stay more or less safe.

No reason why they can't do fine sitting on the corner of an infantry block
I usually keep my sorcs in a unit of xbows but when the enemy gets alittle close i just keep here out of charge arcs

I use two of the ladies myself. I usually have a spear elf unit to drop one in. The other sometimes roams alone. It really depends on the situation. Such as last week I played an army with Karl Franz. One of my women was roaming with the hydra a unit of dark riders and a chariot. She wasn't in any of the units. she survived the battle by playing ring around the Karl as the guy was inexperienced in proper griffon usage let alone proper Karl usage. Now thats no gonna work against your experienced players who know proper Karl usage and even proper griffon usage. but thats an example. You need to giv us some examples so we can really help you. Giveing brash over generalized survival tips don't always work.
