Forgive me if this has been done before, but I couldn't see it.
The idea of this thread is for people to share the Regiment of Renown that they prefer, then comment why and share some tactics. I love the miniatures but have no experience of using them.
For good measure I shall add a poll.
problem is, you can only mark 1 instead of multiple units. I've used Voland's Venators and Ricco's Republican Guard. I've been tempted to use Beorg and his Bearmen, though he's a bit expensive. The rest of them need updating in rules or cost of points or both in my opinion.
I wish GW would give me authority to write a new DoW book.
Like you I've used The Republican Guard and The Venators as I feel they are the most usefull and don't come with too big a downside, unlike some regiments, but my favourite is Volund.
I chose the Alcatani fellowship for the purpose of cheapp pikemen. They're a pretty good bargain because you don't sink a huge amount of points in to the hero. Secondly, they're the best looking of the pike-armed models.

my bad, is there a way to change this.problem is, you can only mark 1 instead of multiple units. They do look good. How well have they performed for you?chose the Alcatani fellowship for the purpose of cheapp pikemen. They're a pretty good bargain because you don't sink a huge amount of points in to the hero. Secondly, they're the best looking of the pike-armed models.
Although its early days I thought Long Drong's Slayer would be the most popular regiment, although it looks like they would die quite quickly with no armour.
Thanks for the response, good stuff

i like Long Drong purely because they are even more crazed and homicidal than a regular pirate and its all packed into about half the height.
I voted for Arsanil.
He's the only way to field a dragon bellow 2K points.
Also, he's fun 2 play at 2k, hence he still offers the possibel option to a spell weaver.
I do not use his model I must say (I have never seen it), but a conversion.

actually, if you compare the point costs, you don't sink a lot of points into the named characters. They are about 40+ points (cheaper than a captain) and come with heavy armor and 4 attacks usually. For me, that's a steal. I don't like the Alcatani because of their pitiful WS and they really aren't that much cheaper than regular pikemen, who can get heavy armor.
Long Drong's would be deadly, but their poor movement and limited range, keeps them from doing anything against a mobile army. They don't have the resilient rule where they can march even if within 8" of an enemy, they can't really even turn a 90 degree turn and fire, so a very mobile unit like fast cav or cheap flyer unit could keep them out of the game for the most part.
Cursed company sounds like it should be good, but the skellies are so expensive for what they do, are still relatively easy to destroy and hard to regenerate and even the hero is hard to keep alive. - if he dies, I think the unit crumbles or something.
