Hey. Well after spending some time taking a break from the hobby, I decided to get into it and have been considering on expanding my DOW army (have a couple of units) because I love the fluff of a pure mercenary army . However, to my dismay I still see that they have yet to be redone, I mean they don't even have a new WD issue with a new army list to keep them updated with the recent edition! Are the DOW gone for good or will they try to bring them back because I love the pikemen models and who doesn't like 25 attacks all at once (run my pikes 6x4 w/hvy armor and FC).
...... Does anyone know anything?
I'd like to see it happen too, but from what I hear, the DOW was not a very good seller and that is why I don't think they even give the DOW options in army listings as RAREs anymore.
I did tinker with a DOW army of my own design in 5th edition that was actually allowed by my gaming group for experimentation/testing purposes.
Off the top of my head ,as I made it clear I wanted it to resemble the GRUDGEBRINGERS, it was....
1) Mercenary General on barded Brettonian warhorse, some goodies (magic items).
2) Paymaster with Moneylender and full 20 man body gaurd unit right out of the book
3) mercenary halfling bowmen, with a champion stated as human champion as far as points went.
4) mercenary infantry, used empire swordsmen mostly.
5) Mercenary cavalry- used the stat line for Kislev Winged lancers
6) Human artillery crew manning a dwarf cannon with several runes on it.
7) a home-made merc unit, called "Grendell the Green Wizard and his Tremendously Trained Troupe of Trollicking Trolls", which was essentially a Wizard Champion on a barded warhorse, leading a unit of 5 trolls.
a unit of dwarf Slayers, which are deemed "mercenary worthy".
I would also love to see DOW redone, but it does seem that they have been scrapped for good. I first thought that all the new army books would have at least 1 unit with the OK DOW special rule. I figured this would replace the DOW army book; but I guess they are just dropping the Idea all together... Really a shame
"Thank him who puts me loath to this revenge on you who wrong me not for him who wrongd"
Well the best i see is making a ogre army(which are mercenaries basicly) and adding DOW units to them as they allow them for rare, meaning you can have pike man or mages in the army. Also you can add ogres to a DOW army.
Very unlikely they will ever be redone. Unfortunately their army list is also very outdated so they are one of the very worst armies competitively... there is a tactica: http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...uys-guide.html (DOW/ROR Best/Worse Buys Guide) which shows the best and worst units but DOW are probably in the last stages of being phazed out. I sold mine long ago...
"Well... that hurt" - Vampire Jon Skellan (Mannfred's right hand man) after being beaten up, falling down an underground waterfall and being impaled by a stalactite.
I do so believe DOW are dead now. i always thought it would be cool to introduce a new army like maybe the Tribes of Albion or the Principalities of Tilea or maybe the Mighty Kingdom of Cathay which is ruled by the legendary dragon emperor whom has countless millions of people under his rule. but sadly none of these will probably ever see light
And nothing where I now stand, is shining.
