I've read on the Albion Mages, and start as I might collecting Warhammer soon, I'd like to know which one is better in your general opinion.
(As a side question, my friend is making a DoW list and is including both Mengil Manhide AND a Truthsayer. Quite distasteful, no?)
Use Light, Beasts, Metal instead of Heavens
NecroLords: Use at least one Death Mage
Brets: Use Peasants&Damsels
Skaven: Don't use Skryre SAD
Truthsayers are only lvl 3 and have more defensive magic.
Dark Emissaries are lvl 4 and are better in offence. They also have no moral values, making them perfect mercenaries.
They also let you take Fenbeasts, which are great holding units, but take up an additional rare choice which you need for cannons in a Dogs of War list.
Whats wrong with homicide?
I like the Truthsayer better. Yes, you may not get all of the "good" light spells but your guy doesn't crumple when attacked (ward and T 4 plus 2 attacks at str 5)
My problem with both, however, is that there is no way to bolster the magic in a DoW army except to take power stones. You can't get enough power dice to do anything. If they would let Hengus (whatever the giants of albion's Beast-loving wizard friend's name is) join a unit, I would take the 2 crappy giants and a scroll caddy and go with PM, General and Captain/Wizard in my army, but he can't so he'll probably get shot down too eary to help.
Basically, GW should let me update the DoW pdf. It would take me all of 2-3hours and I could make it playable so that more people would want to play it and against it. Then I could buy some of those Gamezone pikemen
Truthsayers, for two reasons:
1. one of the only Good mercs Bretonnains can hire.
2. pefect for keeping my weak peasents alive while the knights get down to business.
Since i have a mostly cavalry force, magical defense is important. And though Truthsayers are expensive, they do have a pupose in army sizes below 2000pts (1500pts is the magic number), where you can can't get a lord-level mage. Truthsayers can be a nasity surprise when your opponets are only expecting weak lvl1s and 2 wizards. Doubly so in CC. But thats just me, the Bretonnian.
For the Lady and the King of Bretonnia!
i'd say it depends. if your playing a heavy Cav army then i would say truthsayer as he can keep em alive or hell bring em back from dead.
If you use alot of cheaper infantry units then Dark emisarry all the way.
On that note anyone else think its weird that DoW light cav is 1 point more than their basic infantry and in the process you get a better save a mount and +1 str on the charge if you take spears O_o
if you cant tell i like the all cav approach ;Y
