So I was thinking of an Araby themed list for DOW which would be heavy on the light cav with bows and duellists. Do these sort of skirmishing and hit and run armies ever pull it off? I would have a cannon and perhaps some crossbowmen too.
Fast moving armies can do quiet well against blocks of infantry. They have a speed advantage so they hit on multiple fronts at once, including flanks and rears. They are very disruptive as well, being able to stop march moves towards your infantry, giving your crossbowmen and cannon more turns to fire.
Do you think sticking a pike block in (at 1000pts) would be worth it? I have a feeling that with the rest of the army being small units (5 or 6 strong units of light cav and units of 8-10 duellists) they would be an incredible fire magnet and therefore a waste of a quarter of my points.
You might want to leave them at home in a low point game, as they are fairly pricy, and definately would attract fire. The small fast moving units are better because of the variety of units an opponent has to choose from, meaning if they have to concentrate fire to kill them of leaving the others intact, or pick a man of here and there leaving them slightly weaker, but still functional.
Cheers for the advice, ill write up my list and put it on the army list forum. Any tips on the list would be gratefully accepted!
Arab themed you say? Then definitely use Al Muktar's Desert Dogs. (Or at the very least the models!)
Thats the plan, my light cav will all be converted from those models (replacing the swords with bows). My spellcaster will either be the old paymaster model (the arab one standing on the back of a cart) or the arabian merchant from mordheim. I have already tried converting a duellist and the long hair is very easily green stuffed to look like an arabian headdress. I am still looking for a way to do a sinbad style captain though.
you should try to get hold of the old Saracen Brettonian character, and a long long time ago citadel used to make minis of bandits, some of which were very arabic...might be hard to get hold of though. ANd maybe convert some old Wood Elf beastmaster models with hounds (i think they used to make leopard model which would be great)
Great idea though, one which ive been toying with myself for YEARS!! i think we will see a lot more Araby themed armies soon with Kingdom of Heaven being released at the cinema soon.
