Here is my balanced dwarf army and it fairs well in most game situations loosing only occasionally, mostly pulling out wins and draws. Was just looking for some comments/input that anyone might have. I only really have trouble with other armies if they are specialised for certain purpose’s. I.e. Tombkings magic with acts as bound spells, or enemy gun lines which I simply cannot get to in time before being shot apart.
As I said this army works well as it is so I am reluctant to change it even with input. All the same the input is appreciated and will be put to use in future lists that may arise.
Here’s the list.
Dwarf Lord; 251 (with Hammerers)
Ro Snorri Spangelhlem,
MRo Kragg the Grim,
2 x Ro Iron.
Thane; 162 (with Ironbreakers)
Runesmith; 99 (with Dwarf Warriors)
Master Engineer; 80 (with Grudge Thrower)
Brace of Pistols.
10 Thunderers; 150
Brace of pistols.
10 Thunderers; 150

19 Hammerers; 302
20 Iron Breakers; 340
Grudge Thrower; 150
Brace of Pistols,
Organ Gun; ##
Dispel pool 5 + 1 spellbreaker

looks good for 2000. Your magic defense is a little weak imo, but it depends on your gaming group ( we have some magic heavies in ours)
Units seems smaller, but that's probably because of the 2000pt limit instead of 2250
My only question is, do you find the brace of pistols worth it? I know you're only paying a little bit for them, but do you kill that much with them?
Well over time I have found it better to have the pistols and not need them, than need them and not have them. giving your veteran 3 attacks in cc as they count as two hand weapons, and they can "always stand and shoot". Another great benefit is that units with ranged weapons must fire all their weapons at the same time, which means in a stand and shoot reaction the dwarves handguns must wait to fire until the pistols are in range.
Therefore, say a unit of cavalry charge a handgun unit from 13 inches away, instead of hitting on 5s (BS3 -2 charged and long range), they will be hitting on 4s as they must wait until the pistols are in range at 8 inches and so no longer suffer the minus for long range.
On my grudge thrower I’d like to have a great weapon but pistols do fine. it means that I’m putting out 5 WS4 S3 attacks and 3 WS4 S4 attacks, not to mention 4 pistol shots on the turn they are charged, and having the ME with the thrower gives me "entrenched" which gets rid of any charge bonuses attackers may otherwise get. In its last game my thrower single handed saw off 3 beast herds and a Spawn in close combat, and more often than not has no problem against flyers which are sent to destroy my machines.
I agree that I am a little magic defence weak, and there is always magic heavy armies at my store, but recently its just come down to me choosing which spells to let through and which must be stopped. I get mr from the oath stone with 5 dice and a scroll, but as was demonstrated by an empire wizard arch lector game i had and lost that i may squeeze out the scroll for more magic res but I’m not sure where else i can really shuffle points from. I could get rid of pistols but as i pointed out, they really make up their points difference.
Can i just ask why so many people do 2250 lists? Its just our local store has 2000 as the accepted size for top end games as it gives you the option to have lord choices and a fair selection of other troops. wouldn’t also having 2250pts armies raise the score needed for different results, (wins draws losses). I understand it means you have those extra point to then expand your force the way you like, often i find my self cursing those 25 points i just cant scrape together for another rune, but doesn’t this lead to over powered characters and units over more balanced options that would be achieved with smaller points costs? I've just never understood the point to 2250pts lists.

A lot of tournaments run 2250 pts
yeah, most of the tournaments (RTT and GT) run 2250. If you start playing them, you'll realize that at 2000, you can squeeze in 4 characters, but a lot of armies don't really have the points for them (esp. Dwarves, and current HE which are expensive armies). With 2250, there is plenty of room for tooled out characters and your troops.
Think if you had 25 strong in each of those big dwarf lots, It would take 2 turns of combat at least to lose enough dwarves to lose your CombatRes maximum(ranks, banner, numbers).
Ah thanks for that. Will make a note.
