    2k for upcoming tourney

    Hi...

    Here's the list I was considering for an upcoming tournament....

    General: Dwarf lord, shieldbearers, GW - master rune of Kragg the Grim, Rune of Fire, Rune of Might
    armor - Rune of resistance, rune of stone
    tailsman - master rune of challenge

    Runesmith: shield, rune of stone, master rune of flight, rune of fire, rune of might
    Thane: BSB, master rune of gromril, master rune of swiftness, rune of cleaving, rune of fire

    Core:
    10 quarrellers with shields
    10 quarrellers with shields
    10 warriors with shields
    10 warriors with shields

    Special:
    17 Hammerers with shields and master rune of grugni
    Bolt thrower with rune of penetrating - engineer
    Bolt thrower with rune of penetrating and rune of burning - engineer
    Cannon with rune of forging
    Grudge thrower - rune of accuracy, rune of burning, engineer

    Rare:
    gyrocopter
    Organ gun

    total 1999 points

    Deployment will be using a castle formation, using the small blocks of warriors to protect the war machine flanks, and punish with shooting until the enemy is drawn in, protecting my own units from missile fire with the banner. As they finally get close, runesmith has a nasty surprise to character snipe on their way in.

    Not bad. Not bad at all. Though, there is a few things I would consider.

    In a 2K army, when you have a Runesmith, you should use his full potential, because those 4 DD you get for being a dwarven army, dosent help you that much. Give him some anti magic of some sort
    Perhaps a second Thane?

    I would probably take a magic banner, with that BSB, and remove his weapon runes. But thats more a personal preference.

    Your Quarrellers have a good size. Try and replace one of them with a Thunderere unit. They dont have the same range, but helps giving that extra kick.

    Perhaps it would be a good idea, to bulk up the numbers in your CC blocks to something like, 20. Dwarfs need numbers!

    I like your Gyro choice, but would probably lose some of your warmachines. For those points, you could buy some warriors.

    These are just suggetions but hope I've been able to give you some ideas.

    I find your characters are bloated with runes that will not to the job for you. Keep the BSB simple, MRoG. A great weapon will do nearly just as good for your lord, and save you oodles of points. Your runesmith needs 2 runes of spellbreaking (I always go with 3) if you wan to make it through magic heavy armies.

    You do not have a single unit with 3 rank bonuses. Dwarves rely on this to come out on top, you will have very weak static resolution to soak charges. 20-25 is a given for warrior unit sizes. Closer to 25 if better, lets you retain ranks after taking a few casualties from shooting.

    Tried to rework a bit... am I getting closer? I don't normally play a "gunline" type army so having some trouble with figuring out the balance between having just enough defensive positions to have a plan B (for those armies that will reach my guns still strong) - and still keep the shooting phase punishing enough....


    (the warriors are only for flank guard / redirect duty but if there's a way to build them up and keep the gunline decently strong I'll for sure do it!)

    So here's two options - which do you think is better?

    OPTION ONE:

    General: Dwarf lord, shieldbearers, GW - master rune of Kragg the Grim, rune of Snorri +1 to hit,
    armor - Rune of resistance, rune of stone
    tailsman - master rune of challenge

    Runesmith: shield, rune of stone, master rune of balance
    Thane: BSB, rune of stone, master rune of flight, rune of might

    10 quarrellers with shields
    10 thunderers with shields
    10 warriors with shields
    10 warriors with shields

    Special:
    17 Hammerers with shields and master rune of grugni
    Bolt thrower with rune of penetrating - engineer
    Bolt thrower with rune of penetrating and rune of burning - engineer
    Cannon with rune of forging
    Grudge thrower - rune of accuracy, rune of burning, engineer

    Rare:
    gyrocopter
    Organ gun

    total 1999 points, 6 dispel dice (one of which is stolen from my opponent's power dice - so doubly effective)

    or alternatively:

    OPTION TWO

    General: Dwarf lord, shieldbearers, GW
    armor - Rune of resistance, rune of stone
    tailsman - master rune of challenge

    Runesmith: shield, rune of stone, master rune of balance
    Thane: BSB, MR Gromril, rune of preservation
    Core:
    10 quarrellers with shields
    10 quarrerllers with shields
    15 warriors with shields
    15 warriors with shields

    Special:
    18 Hammerers with shields and master rune of grugni
    Bolt thrower with rune of penetrating - engineer
    Bolt thrower with rune of penetrating and rune of burning - engineer
    Cannon with rune of forging
    Grudge thrower - rune of accuracy, rune of burning, engineer

    Rare:
    gyrocopter
    Organ gun

    total 1997 points, 6 dispel dice

    Well had a game this weekend with the above list (option one), and it did go quite well...

    My opponent was Dark Elves, and he had two sorceresses, a master on a dark pegasus, block of spearelves, executioners, chariot, big block of witchelves, dark riders, crossbow elves, reapeater bolt thrower,and cold one knights with a general on cold one... (no hydra - but I don't think it would have been much of a problem to take out)

    Now the dice were not on my side, I'll start with that... given I blew up both my grudge thrower and my organ gun by turn three... and also forgot completely about the master run of challenge which would have taken out the last of his knights completely....

    However the dwarfs still were victorious... He had three knights, the two wizards, repeater bolt thrower, 5 witchelves (with an assassin) left. I had lost a unit of quarrellers, a unit of warriors, and my cannon - as well as the grudge thrower and organ gun which were my own fault! but nothing else....

    so on the first test run, it performed well.... just wish I would have remembered the rune of challenge - my big block of hammerers / lord / bsb didn't see combat - even with making him have to come to me!
