Lo guys! Im planning on starting out with WFB, I did intend to go a Elf army at the beginning, but since the guys im going to play alot in the future alredy have; Dark Elfs, Wood Elfs, High Elfs and Greenskin, Dwarfs became my obvious 2nd choice.
As stated, alot of elfs and greenskin on the other side of the table.
Here is the army!
- Master Rune of Gromril
- Great Weapon
Total: 94 points
20 Dwarf Warriors
Total: 205 points
Total: 150 points
Total: 150 points
Total: 205 points
Total: 60 points
Total: 120 points
Grand Total: 984 points
Ive got 16points to spare, dno if I can put something usefull somewhere, oh well. What you guys think?
Your army is spot on for a first list! And you took the great and cheap thane build I always take
For a little bit of diversity you could swap the second thunderer unit for a unit of quarrelers with great weapons and the ranger rule ( 140 pts ) and with the 10 points have left and the other 16 points you can take a rune worth 25 pts or some other stuff, here some of my favourites:
- A rune on the longbeard unit's banner ( rune of determination is my personal favourite, and the runes of battle or stoicism are also good choices. )
- You could also take the Masterrune of challenge with the thane. It's a great rune. You will force your opponent to charge you instead of evading you.
- A rune on your boltthrower, like the rune of penetratiting
- 2 more longbeards or 3 more warriors.
I'd advice you to change one of your thunderer units to a quarreler unit. You can set them up in annoying places and keep taking potshots at the enemy the entire game, or force him to send a unit towards them to deal with them.
Another way to go is to use those 25 pts to give the quarrelers a champion ( the extra attack is always handy ) and an 11th quarreler, or 11th thunderer or something like that.
My advice is anyway to change one unit of thunders to a unit if quarrelers with the ranger upgrade ( 1pt/model ) and give them great weapons ( compulsory when you have the ranger upgrade ). Then you have 25 pts left to spend for some good runes.
Hope it helps
Thank you for your quick and well-done respons.
I have thought about switching a group of thunderers for quarelers, but I just dont like the look/feel of them... I mean, dwarfs with bows... seriously? .
And being a player who values visuals almost as high as winning, I will have to say thanks, but no thanks.
PS. But im seriously thinking about it now anyways
Not just your average elfish bow, crossbows > Higher strenght than pansy elfy bows ^^ And they've got big great weapons. Big axes, grrarr!
Your choice obviously, as it is your army and I'd always advice you to center any army you play around units you think are cool or fluffy. I'm taking chameleon skinks in my lizardmen army, even though they aren't that much better then normal skinks.
You could also just take a unit of normal warriors with great weapons and give them the ranger upgrade, give them a champion, and if you want ( it's cool ) give them throwing axes, wheee! ( 130 pts for this unit )
The list is good as it is. Stop trying to change it, rangers aren't that strong in 1000pts anyway
i would say. change the 1 thunderer unit to warriors whit Great weapons and make the rangers and use the rest of the points on the Rune of resisting to the thane or the rune of penetrating to the bolt thrower, increasing the bolt throwers strenght ftom 6 to 7
