So my friends and I haven't played WHFB in awhile, been focusing mainly on 40k, but with 8th Ed. coming out some excitement has been stirred up. None of us are are really hobbyists so most of our (rather large) armies are still mostly unpainted so we've decided to pick small forces and play with just them until they're all painted and then slowly expand.
I was hoping if I could get some feedback on the list I've chosen, which seems pretty standard, but I'm not sure if there are better options with the 8th Ed. rules which I haven't been able to read in-full yet.
My main opponents are Vampire Counts, Brettonians, and Warriors of Chaos (in all shapes and colors).
Thane of Pain 117pts
- Runic Hand Weapon: MRoSwiftness, RoCleaving
- Runic Gromril Armor: RoStone
14x Warriors 151pts
- Hand Weapon, Heavy Armor, Shield
- Full Command
10x Ironbreakers 160pts
- Hand Weapon, Gromril Armor, Shield
- Full Command
10x Thunderers 140pts
- Dwarf Handgun, Hand Weapon, Light Armor
1x Grudgethrower 80pts
The strategy is pretty basic (can't do anything too complex with this many points), use the blocks to absorb charges or punish anyone that goes for the Thunderers or Grudgethrower in between them. I went for the Ironbreakers over Hammerers to hopefully be able to last longer since I can only afford such a small unit, even though I think the Hammerers would be a better counter heavy cavalry unit which I'm likely to face a lot of. But only 10 Hammerers die fast.
The Thane goes with the Warriors because without great weapons their offense is pretty minimal, they'll need the help to not break in combat whereas the Ironbreakers have the +1WS/S combo and more staying power to avoid casualties.
Thoughts and comments appreciated

I haven't played at that point value in a long time, so take this with a grain of salt. My advice would be to Gunline it in a corner. 2 blocks of 10 Quarelerers with Great Weapons and the Ironbreakers in the center, with either a cannon or the Grudge Thrower to slow them down. You would have a 36inch range on the Quarelerers and with the GW's, they would be decent in combat. As I have not played a ton of 8th edition, you might want to consider consolidating the 2 groups of Quarelers into one large group 10 wide, 2 deep. You would be able to shoot with all 20 until the opponent got close, and then regroup into a block and do a decent amount of damage with the GW. Grab a musician and standard and you should come in right at your target point value with the Grudge thrower.
Thats one idea anyways, maybe it will start the converstation flowing. Good luck.
