This is my first post and just wanted to see what people think of a new army list i've written. It is only really going to be used in friendly's and just for a bit of fun. Basicaly the idea is to scout with the entire army, strollaz rune to get into position and get a first turn charge. Then my ranger blocks should hopefully be able to pummle the enemy into submission or die trying. Simple enough so here goes.
20 Longbeards Rangers 305
30 Rangers 355
So with 15 points to play with i ask for any constructive critism on the army list and improvements. I hope to play with it on saturday and will post how it went.
unfortunately, the list isn't legal right now. While i like the idea, and would love to see the look on your opponent's face when you tell him your entire army is scouting, you must have at least 3 non-character units in the army (BRB p.134).
The cheapest extra unit you can throw in there would be a single un-runed bolt thrower. However, if you want to keep with the theme of your army, might i suggest a small contigent of miners. you'll have to hack off a few models/commands either way to get that third unit in, but 30 sounds a bit big for a dwarf unit at 1000 points, so i don't imagine it would be too tough to scrounge the points. a block of miners comming in from the rear could actually be pretty devistating if you get that 1st turn charge you're after. They're still right on thier own lines, they're locked in combat, and now they have more great weapons in the rear. Negate rank bonus, earn rear bonus, and get extra kills to boot.
Ok see that now here is the new list
Longbeards (as above) 305
30 Rangers (357 as above)
16 Miners 181
So i got rid of the BSB for a unit of miners, this way i can still keep my block of rangers and longbeards. Unfortunately i lose the extra move so is harder to get a first turn charge and will have to see how it works. With the non-legal list above however i managed to smash a brettonian army but when i played later had a minor loss against skaven. But i enjoyed the games so its all good. Thanks for comenting
Sorry, but I'm going to have to borrow this for the 8 peaks campaign I'm playing.
No problem post how u got on
You have to have to have a unit of warriors for every unit of longbeards in the army, regardless of any other factors.
Since making a unit into rangers is an upgrade, you first need a unit to upgrade, in your case, longbeards. And to have that unit of longbeards, you first need warriors, 2 units, 1 to be stock, and the other to upgrade.
May the Dragon of Unhappiness never fly up your bottom.
FAQ V1.3 Page 3
Q. If a unit of Warriors or Longbeards is upgraded to Rangers, does the unit continue to count as part of the ratio which restricts players to not having more units of longbeards than they have warriors? (P33)
