Ok, so this is my first dwarf list. I just got a whole lot of dwarves from my friend and I got a lot of war machines and ranged guys so here is the list I came up with. I guess I just need to make sure I created all my runic items correctly. The idea is to just shut down their magic phase with four extra dispel dice, essentially three dispel scrolls with one killing a spell possibly. Shoot the crap out of them and then chop them up with great weapons when the remnants get here. I figure the cannons and upped bolt throwers will bring down big nasties and start skewering ranks. LMK if you think this list is competitive. I actually have very few warriors which is why the list is set up the way it is right now.
Dwarf Lord, shield bearers, GW, Rune of resistance, master rune of spite, rune of cleaving, rune of snorri, rune of Kragg
Runelord, GW, master rune of balance, spell eater rune, rune of stone, 2 runes of iron
Thane, BSB, GW, master rune of gomril, rune of resistance, 144
Runesmith, GW, 2 runes of spell breaking, rune of stone 128
19 thunderers w/ musician
19 thunderers w/ musician
20 quarrelers w/ FC and GW
20 quarrelers w/ FC and GW
29 hammerers w/ FC, master rune of grungi
1 cannon w/ engineer, rune of forging, rune of fortune, rune of reloading
1 cannon w/ rune of forging, rune of burning, rune of reloading
1 bolt thrower w/ engineer, rune of seeking, 2 runes of penetration
1 bolt thrower w/ engineer, master rune of skewering, 2 runes of penetration
Just a quick question. Dwarves have runes so they cannot take magical items listed in the rule book correct?

your runic weapons are all illegal right now. In order to have a runed up great weapon, you need to use the MR of kragg the grim. Otherwise, you're just adding runes to a hand weapon, and you have to use that instead of the great weapon. I would add MR Kragg the grim to your lord, then either drop the GW from your thane or drop the rune. Since your thane has MR Gromril, you should be fine just taking the great weapon instead of a runed weapon. also keep in mind that your characters will not be able to use the shields in combat. Because you took GW, you HAVE TO USE GW. They'll only be effective against ranged attacks. And from there, you've got gromril armor and most of them have rune of stone too, so you should be fine. You can save some points by dropping the shields.
Your war machines are a bit over runed for my tastes. Cannons only need forging, maybe burning if you expect regen or want two cannons with forging. Also, the engineer you have on your first cannon is virtually useless. He allows you to re-roll the misfire result, but fortune is already making it an auto 6. and thats assuming forging didn't correct the misfire. The bolt throwers, aren't worth giving runes to. Skewering is nice, but do you really need S8 both throwers? personally, I don't like dwarven both throwers. they've never reallly done the job. against rank and file, your thunders will be more effective. And against big terrible beasties you have to roll to hit, wound, and then hope you roll decently for your D3 wounds. Just go with a cannon. Almost gaurenteed to hit, S10, D6 wounds. Sure its a bit more expensive, but its much better at the job. That said, my advice is to drop the runes on the bolt throwers, or even drop them all together. Drop both cannons down to forging and forging/burning. I don't know what other models you aquired from your friend, but if you got an organ gun they are the way to go. 2 cannons is pushing it for usefullness, so maybe you can use one as an organ gun or flame cannon to increase your effectiveness against rank and file. Cannons are good at taking out beasties, but not too reliable against block units.
Use the extra points to just fill out whatever you can. Its kind hard to offer suggestions of what to use when you say your limited on models. We don't know what you have, so we can't say "use slayers" if you don't have slayers. i would try to use the extra points to get an organ gun. if you can't do that, add as many more thunderers as you can, and hope its enough. if you don't have any more models to add, then there isn't much you can change then, is there?
I have 18 warriors, a grudge thrower, and like 10 slayers. I dont have any organ guns. Thanks for help with the GW. I was actually pretty confused about what MR krag the grim actually did. I understand what you are saying about bolt throwers but I have them and not other war machines. Also, I thought that dwarf cannons were only d3 wounds?
Toss in the grudge thrower with accuracy and at least one penetration, and then maybe a small unit of warriors/longbeards (because you have a dwarf lord, you CAN use a unit of longbeards without needing a unit of warriors first).
Additionally, FAQ/errata removed the seperate profiles for "large" and "small" cannons. Cannons are cannons now, so its D6. well deserved boost if i do say so myself.
