    [3000] Dwarf vs Vampire Counts

    I regularly play against a co-worker's Vampire Counts army and he always beats me with his infinitely-regenerating skeletons, 20" movement turns involving multiple castings of Danse Macabre, Black Coach charges, Grave Guard with Killing Blow, and the outnumber + Fear causing units autobreak rule.

    My intended strategy involves using the dual Cannon to shoot through ranks of troops at his Necromancer (lucky bounce!) while using the Gyrocopter and, later, the unit of Miners to harry his other casters.

    Should that fail, I hope to whittle the size of the skeletal forces with bolt-thrower shots, and make liberal use of dispel dice/scrolls to keep him from casting Invocation of Nehech to reinforce their numbers. Each unit of warriors has a vanilla Runesmith with it to bump up the dispel dice for the army, since he regularly has upwards of 14 casting dice + bound items.

    My hope is that the Slayer unit as well as the IB unit with the Dwarf Lord + Immunity to Psychology will be able to handle the Grave Guard units with their annoying Killing Blow (hence the ward save) while the normal troops can win against the skeleton units through attrition if I can effectively deny the Invocations.

    First you want to do 2 things.

    Drop the rune lord he is the biggest point sink to get some dispell dice, and the anvil produces too few dice to be a threat to a vampire count.

    Kit your smiths with some runes of spellbreaking, and spelleater rune for spells like the dance macabre or even the invocation.

    As for the fear, here's a tip. use standards. The Master rune oif fear will negate is fear.
    better yet the Rune Of courage makes your units immune to psychology and isn't a master rune, wich means you can have it on both your standard and battle standard bearer.

    And if you really have a problem with fear, kit a lord with the master rune of kingship, big points, but that means the unit will stick around.

    you don't need that many point worth of slayers, they are simply a speedbump, use only 1 to 3 giant slayers, and keep only 15-16 and an ancor.

    a nice thing you can do, is to take a salyer caracter strait to a unit of zombies or skeletons, and kill every model in base with your models attacks, and loose combat, then get a flank charge with another unit.

    Flanking undead is the moist important thing, they sudently looses 3 ranks and a flank bonus for you.

    miners won't catch a caracter on foot unless he forgets to move in, they only move 6 and need to manouver.

    don'T put your caracters and ironbreakers against the guard, thier killing blow can kill your lord in 1 lucky attack, and they'll slice right past your 2+ ironbreaker save.

    use your shooting to kill the guard. a stonethrower or 2 may help here

    My first idea would be

    lord -tooled as u see fit
    RS x 3 (as you have but with some dispel runes)

    thunderers or x-bowmen
    couple large units of warriors (25 min)

    2 units of 20+ ironbreakers (banners)
    ~15 slayers, 2 giant slayers
    2x catapult

    flame cannon
    ~15 long drongs

    use two dwarf lords

    The General one
    -great wpn/ +1 save rerollable 4+ ward , a re-roll
    -w/ 19 hammerers full command rune of courage

    Other one
    -master rune of kingship
    -gromil armr,shield rune of stone
    -rune of cleaving
    w/ 19 Ironbreakers w/ fullcommand
    -rune of sanctuary, rune of battle

    slap a thane w/ army standard then u got 2 ld 9 stubborn re-roll failed break tests immune to phsycology units

    Why don't you take a Rune of Burning with Flame Cannon against undead - it will slice them to pieces!

    the list its pretty good though you seem to have 1 too many characters for my liking they tend to eat points like no tomorow. the anvil of doom tends to do enough anti magic for my tastes and at most ill tek a second rune smith giving me a total of 9 de-spell dice. (4+2(for rune lord) +1 (for anvil) and +2 (for a runie with a master rune of balence)

    and i have to agree with wolf pack about the standards though. in my own anti undead list standards like the rune of courage or rune of stoicism are great vs the undead and make sure you do not suffer from autobreaks. (rune of courage on longbeards and rune of stoicism on ironbreakers is preferable)

    Actually, I didn't originally mean rune of burning on flame cannon.

    I meant Rune of Burning on Cannons.

    Add in a cannon for substitute of the other one.

    And give Lord a Rune of Fire.

    It'll mash the Vampires.:yes:
