Hi,
I have the same question too.
Does the Army Set Deal (£100/$175) is a good start for a new dwarf player?
Thank you

Hi,

the battalion set is a good starting point as when you combine it with a warrior box you have enough for 40 dwarf warriors/longbeards (40 or 20 and 2. in addition you get a unit of thunderers or quarellers and a cannon or organ gun. its a good starting point overall or a good way to boost tthe numbers in your army.
the army box however, IS an army and has tons of space for conversion.
in it you receive 40 warriors/longbeards, 20 miners, 20 quarrellers and 20 thunderers and a pair of cannons/ organ guns.
generally speaking, 40 missile troops is just way too much so i reccomend you use spare bits from the warriors/longbeards (you'll have 20 shield and handweapons or 20 great weapons handy) and build another combat unit. from this you have 40/60 warriors, a possible 20 longbeards, 20 miners and then 20 of the missile troop of your choice.
this is essentially a 2000 point army once you add characters and a few more warmachines. ^_^

Have to agree with Arklite here, the battalion set is a great starting point. Has most the essential ingredients for the starting of an army, and add a few extra pieces - a thane miniature and another warrior boxed set and you'll have enough to play around with. Also, very good for a general who is expanding their army as well.
The army boxed set is quite good, I brought it when it came out, but I think its a bit costly and doesn't have everything you need in there. I personally would forgo this option unless a) I have the money for it and b) just want to get an army set up, and available. Otherwise, I'd go for the battalion and build what I want from that.
No matter what you buy, you need a number of things:
a) thane (plenty of options here, don;t forget you can convert from plastic or use an older dwarf figure)
b) at least 40 warriors (two units of 20 is a good starting point)
c) missile unit (10 - 12 is a good size, the spares can be used elsewhere)
From there, you'll be looking at war machines and elite units to fill out your choices and meet a nice 1000pts.

Combining Skull Pass and a Battalion you get something like this:
36 Warriors
26 Thunderers
1 Cannon
1 Cannon or Organ gun
8 Miners
1 Thane
1 Dragon Slayer
So you're saying if I buy those 2(already have Skullpass) and then a Warrior Box. I can use that Warrior box to make 16 Longbeards and then convert 8 Thunderers to 4 warriors 4 longbeards and end with a army near something like:
40 Warriors
20 Longbeards
18 Thunderers
8 miners
2 artillery
1 thane
1 dragone Slayer
That sound about right? And you're saying that's a pretty decent way to start?

Greetings to my revered elders.
Can you please clarify a point concerning the Master Rune of Flight? Is there any requirement for a 'to hit' roll when throwing a weapon with this rune, or does the target take one hit with only a strength vs toughness roll required to determine if a wound is taken?
Apologies if this has been covered previously or for asking the obvious. I'm hoping to equip a Thane with this weapon to neutralise my opponent's tree-hugging lord/heroes, equipped with Annoyance of Nettlings, bows of mass devestation and who hide behind walls to keep out of the way of my bolt-throwers (perhaps a Grudge Thrower is the answer??)
many thanks for your wisdom

no worries, the master rune of flights wording is kind of vague ^_^
basically when the weapon is thrown it automatically hits once against any target you can see. this includes enemy characters within the unit.
i'm going to be testing this rune out myself soon as i see a lot of potential for it in sniping out champions and characters. it auto hits in a stand and shoot reaction so its essentially an extra auto hitting attack.

Hi I am new and I should have read the new posts and stuff. I have the White Dwarf, with Gotrek & Bugman. But I cannot find the rules for him. I also cannot find the magazines with the stats in them. Could someone please give me the stats. Thanks.

Stonegate, unfortunately we are unable to give you the rules to the miniature on LO as it is breaking LO's rules. Please don't ask for them in future. The rules can be found in the birthday edition of White Dwarf, the number escapes me though, perhaps another venerable longbeard knows the magazine number.

I apologize, I did not mean to cause problems if I have. I thank you though for your quick response.
