So we have tourneys every month at a local store. I was curious if any of you guys might know how to take out not one but two Empire Steamtanks? Yes thats right. We have a player who plays not only two steamtanks but a gunline from hell along with cannons and magic. So as a Dwarf how do we compete. These lists usually are 2150 and there is no penealties for peolpe who want to play all shooty like I have heard in some tourneys. So please a little input would help. I own every dwarf model and many , many duplicats. I have over 6000 in dwarves. I really would love to show up and take out his army. Thanks all :happy:
Hit each STank with a few Grudge thrower/bolt thrower/cannon shots till its got about 5 wounds left then ignore them. They will either do nothing or risk blowing themselves up.
Magic should not be a problem as long as you have a Runesmith with MRo Balance and a Spellbreaker, unless the empire player is going all out where you should either get a second Runepriest or an anvil (which can also kill many warmachines and shooting units with its Ro Wrath and Ruin).
I would also suggest getting a banner with MRo Grungni which will greatly hinder his shooting effectiveness.
Finally, you could get Strollaz's rune and really surprise him by rushing him with dwarfs! Or you could just shoot the crap out of him...
steam tanks are to be honest... quite laughable. a 300 point short ranged cannon which can cause some nice impact hits... yeah i'll stick to my gyrocopter thank you. while 5 wounds makes them essentially dead to the world. taking off 3 wounds pretty much destroys their effectiveness reducing them to little more than a short ranged turret.
in this situation cannons are your friend. their high accuracy and high strength make short work of steam tanks. one you have knocked 3-4 wounds off the however, ignore them and focus on his gunline. trying to completly destroy the steam tanks will sadly acheive little. your ideal targets will be his ranked units and his warmachines.
the master rune of grungi is definently a must have in this kind of game (and any tourney situation in my mind). the 5+ ward doesn't seem like much but its worth every point.
if you are happening to use the anvil might i point out that the rune of wrath and ruins DOES effect the steam tanks movement halfing it. its a minor advantage but with some focused attacks can take one of the steam tanks out of the game ;Y
spambot kill tally: 79
[16:19] <@Alzer> Arky's right though
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> I know he is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> He usually is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> Sometimes it's intentional.
[00:01] <+zubus> i love you, ya skirt wearin nothern monkey! ^_^
Ehm... seeing how I've yet to fight a single fight with my growing dwarf force, would a couple of miners popping up from behind give that imperial gunline a good nasty thrashing? Especially with the anvil handy?
So I guess I can set up a list and you guys can tell me thumbs up or down. Ialso need to build this list to compete with the defending tourney champ 3 tourneys strong. This guy runs with Bertonnians. So a list that could possibly beat them as well as an over achieving Empire army would be great...
im right new to Fantasy and Dwarfs. but if your playing someone that likes that kind of army, probably take 10 bolt throwers and many thunderers and wait for him to come to you. you should outrange all his units and be able to hurt the steamtanks plenty.
He is only one of the other opponents you will meet in the tournament.
Get a generic Dwarf army with extra cannon or anvil.
Pixie was on the right track with the miners. If you want to play a really cheesy army, bring four big units of miners with steam drill for rerolls (and blasting caps if you want to waste points/surprise the enemy). Since most empire army gun lines are mostly handguns and crossbows, all you have to worry about is war machines and magic. Bring a couple of scrolls to weather the worst of the storm and then roll the line while his steam tanks are in the middle of nowhere doing not much.
8x bolt throwers could also be cool, although not quite as effective agaisnt the gun line as against the tanks.
Oi! Get off me beard!
