Has anyone had any measure of success with a Thane with a Rune of Brotherhood? This could be with miners or rangers. I have never heard chatter about anyone using it, much less using it with any measure of success. Any stories?
I have used a Thane with Brotherhood in a unit of miners. It works out well enough but if you do it with Miners the Steamdrill and an Anvil of Doom become important. You need the Steamdrill to make sure your unit arrives when you need it to and you want the Anvil so your miners + thane get the charge on the turn they show up. Of course my army is strongly themed around the miners so it works well for me....I just wish miners were Core, that would add a whole new dimension to dwarf armies.
The only honorable options left to we combatants is seppuku or semantics...which amount to the same thing really.
I've used it in small units of rangers mainly against faster opponents with a lot of scouts like Lizardmen or Wood Elves. Find that it helps bolster them when they are inevitably charged, plus if you give him a MR Swiftness it can be a nasty surprise when he strikes first.
Rangers can cause a lot of damage if used correctly. Quarrellers with throwing axes means they can stand and shot if charged

the odd time ive used the rune of brotherhood, i put the thane in a unit of miners and gave him the MR of challenge. this way he can force the enemy archers/defending unit to charge his unit or run towards the main battleline. either way its a great way to reduce shooting for at least a turn, and you can use the overrun to great effect

I tried it last night with MR of challange against a WE player and watched his atler lord charge me to only meet a face full of explosives.... that kill covered the points and more...
well i would be careful with archers in this case... ok i know there str 3 so wounding 5's but you have to remember that when you come on, on there next turn you cant use MR of challange as they are not facing the right way, so they will turn around and get to shoot you in the face for 1 turn before you get to d it on there next turn.. or you could just charge and take another round of shooting in the stand and shoot. i suggest you move in and use your full 6 inch's to get as close to archers/ riflemen whatever and on their turn use the MR of challange on cannon crew as they have 360 line of sight, wipe them out then chage the archers next turn,,,
I personally didn't had in respect the Rune of Brotherhood until I read Zaki's post above.
Inspiring, and I use 20 miners all the time. I found them a must on my play style, and they are good diversion always
