Hey, everyone! This Saturday I'm participating in an escalation tournament that is starting at 500 points. Now I've never made a list this small, and I wanted to be sure it would do well this weekend. Any suggestions or criticism is welcomed.
Master Engineer; army general: 80
brace of pistols
Quarrellers (10): 120
Quarrellers (10): 120
Bolt Thrower: 60
rune of seeking
Organ Gun: 120
in small points, shooting is really a dwarves only option, boring as it may be. The organ gun is probably the best thing you can get, it causes utter mayhem.
Only problem i have with the list is the rune of seeking. You will rarely see flyers in small points so the rune is wasted. take a rune of pen instead to bring it to S7. good against the odd monster and chariot you will see
Oi! Get off me beard!
Why'd you give your Quarrelers shields? They seem pretty useless imo. Drop them, and add a couple of extras.
Anything else I have to add has already been said.
Drop the Bolt-thrower as well - with 500 pts it wont get anything substantial to shoot at, at lesat not from the flank. Spend the 60 pts on another 5 quarrellers

I like the shields on the quarrellers. Sure, you never hope to get them into combat, but in the event that it does happen, T4 with a 4+ AS isn't too shabby. Just in case.
And if you do decide to keep the bolt thrower, why not an engineer on it? That extra BS will help you reach out and touch some units first turn. For the same cost as the rune, you get another crew and the extra BS. Sounds like a deal.
Organ gun. Hmmmm. At the small points you're working with, it's gonna kill unit after unit, if it doesn't blow up first.
Ok, first off, the reason there's no engineer on the bolt thrower is that the master engineer goes with it while entrenching the organ gun. And the quarrellers have shields because, as stated, they're fairly solid in close combat, and it gives them a better chance to stand up to enemy fire. Oh, and I used rune of seeking because I have a friend playing high elves and one playing dark elves who both have flying units in their 500 pt list (dragon mage and harpies/ manticore).
I used this list twice and had not so good results. The first time, against high elves, his pheonix gaurd were able to shrug off quarrellers' bolts and charge into combat, win and overrun into the organ gun crew. The spearmen were shot down however, and of course my organ gun missfired twice and did nothing. In the next fight against Brets, I was annihilated because two units of knights were able to make it to my line. Mostly because the organ gun missfired and blew up first turn.
I guess its mostly my bad bad luck that loses games.
ahhh, I see.... forgot that you had a master engineer... my bad... but with his ballistic skill, you should still only need a 2+ to hit on the dragon mage at all time... 5 BS and shooting at a large target... the only thing you'd have to worry about are those damn harpies... but since you can implace one your war machines, you'll get hard cover and always strike first I think on your organ gun....
yah, bad luck on the organ gun.... that's way I rarely take one... that and the Anvil... they either blow up or never make up their points....
Take a look a full 20 dwarf warrior block. With full command, it'll only cost you a little over one and a half times the 10 dwarf quarreller line.... and it'll see off those blocks of harpies just with static combat res, even if they attack from the rear.... with a unit of quarrellers on the side and a bolt thrower on overwatch, you might have something there....
