I liek this guy!! haha
I am going to be playing a 2500 point battle against vampire counts and i want to know if you guys think he woudl be woth it?
Never used him myself (mainly because I don't play dwarfs), but from what I hear, that guy is pure cheese.
Ancient Power spells (non-dispellable- sp?) on a 3+ with a re-roll. No limit to range. Not sure on LoS. Almost impossible to kill in combat. Even harder to shoot.
So yeah, he's the perfect example of the character to use if you want to win games, but not friends.
If one of my opponents ever were to use him, I would find an array of all my spiky models, and test their flight capabilities, using said opponent's eyeballs as targets.
If I'm playing Thorek, I'd load up on the cheesiest character I can take (Teclis) and then take a few of teh anti-Dawi talismans that the High Elves have as well. Thorek Ironborw is simply too powerful for normal Warhammer games, he should be double his points cost, or easier to kill by HTH combat...
Haha well thats all i needed to know i think i will for sure find a place for him in my tourney 2500!
Many torunaments may ban Thorek, so check in advance if he is allowed. And ensure that there are no sportsmanship marks - these may be heavily penalised if you take him...
I don't use Thorek, but he is pretty powerfull in any list.
But why you complain?
When you go to a tournament and you face Stanks, some ultimate powered Vamps and special characters, at least the only resonable Dwarf choice is Thorek.
Also I don't see dwarf players complaing for the lack of cavarly in the form of Chosen Knights or Blood Knights.
If we were provided with something else usefull we could use it. But the King is too expensive and Bugman useless.
Also don't forget that the point sink is big on Thorek. An army who will take him, will lack on many other sectors.
the main issue of complaint is that many dwarf players have some sembelance of honour and really don't like being tagged with thorek on the reputation of our army.
however, so say that our ONLY choice it thorek i must most heartily object. the dwarf army is a force which is easy to play, but difficult to master. ideal for begining players to start warhammer but often quite quick to fall to the side and get replaced by another army. it is but the way of things sadly.
but to say that dwarves have NOTHING but thorek? i call that poor and elvish thinking!
no one for example can match the reliablity and accuracy of our artillery. our infantry are at the top end of the warhammer spectrum, only outclassed by chaos warriors as core troops and they have to pay through the teeth for it (4 points per model over a longbeard). our elite infantry are some of the most infamous and feared in the warhammer world. can anyone else field a unit akin to ironbreakers for even near the same price? how about hammerers, the games best single bodyguard.
the dwarf army might not have the singular OMGWTFCHEESE units of other armies. and i would argue that we don't need them. dwarves are very much a combined arms army with no single dwarf winning the way. it is the unity and disipline of the dwarves that carry the day. a good dwarf player only has to work out how to exploit this.
special characters like thorek build bad reputations for the army, and the players. who is infact winning the game when thorek is involved? i can say for certain its not the dwarf player, he is just rolling dice and pointing at units. no tactics, no thought, no soul.
play like a real dwarf i say!
spambot kill tally: 79
[16:19] <@Alzer> Arky's right though
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> I know he is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> He usually is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> Sometimes it's intentional.
[00:01] <+zubus> i love you, ya skirt wearin nothern monkey! ^_^
I guess i do agree with you about
"playing like a real dwarf" But i dunno man i think my buddys vampire counts need a good whooping im just gettign messed up by blood knights and crazy souped up vamps
You know, Dwarf Lords have some of the most competitive builds out there. That, and their magic defence is one of the greatest in the game (BSB with MRoValaya, then take a couple of Runesmiths with some nifty runekits- THAT is one tough magic defence to crack).
Just because you keep getting your ass kicked by a VC doesn't mean you should just resort to using Thorek.
If the BKs give you problems, artillery-spam him. Take 2 Organ Guns, a few trinkets of ranged doom, and a unit of Hammerers/Ironbreakers and you're not looking too badly.
As I've already said, Dwarf Lords are feared characters with a nifty reputation in the gaming tables across the WHFB world. Slayers, too, should never be underestimated (check my Monster Arena- the Vampire Slayer skill is called that for a reason).
Ehm probably I didn't myself clear.
Dwarves have one of the best Heroes/Lords & equipment list.
I don't use special characters and never will. My commanders are more than enough substantial to do the job.
What I meant was that from the whole army, the only thing from special characters that worth it's points is Thorek. Compared with the other armies..... and that people shouldn't complain if someone fields him.
